Four week course – Monday evening in September 2026

This short course will explore how breathing meditation is the foundation for Buddhist meditation.

It starts with the breath. The simple in – out breath. We focus on that. Only that. Each mindful breath can be the vehicle that, slowly, slowly, leads us to a state of freedom.

Initially, we build our capacity to hold our mind to the experience of breathing, which grounds us entirely in this fleeting present moment. Upon this foundation an entire edifice of skilful practice is built.

We will discuss analytical meditation, which uses reasoning and intellectual thought for overcoming misconceptions about life and the concept of self. This will be integrated with placement meditation on an object, where the mind becomes like a mountain, stable, non-dual, becoming increasingly familiar with the object, in the present moment.

Facilitator of these sessions, Anthony, is a long time student of our founder Khensur Rinpoche and has been interested in Buddhist practice since the 1990’s. We hope you will enjoy Anthony’s presentation of these abstract topics, as he grounds them in our contemporary experience, in a light and easily understandable manner.

Mondays 7.30 – 9.00pm – 7th, 14th, 21st & 28th September 2026

FACILITY FEE FULL COURSE – Please register by: 4th September. Member & Member Concession $40.00: Non-member Waged $60.00: Non-member Concession $50.00

And that’s a wrap on the final day of The Compassion Project at the State Library of South Australia , presented in collaboration with SALA Festival and Tibetan Buddhist Institute,
Thanks to Alex Stock Stocktography & Benjamin Liew Photography 🙏

A heartfelt thank you to Geshe Jampa Gyaltsen along with Geshe Dorjee and Geshe Jamyang our talented Geshes, who kindly travelled all the way from Sera Jey Monastery in India to create such a magnificent sand mandala in this iconic South Australian library space.

And to everyone who helped bring this project to life, the artists, collaborators, supporters, volunteers, audiences and everyone who stopped to witness, learn, connect and share in the experience, thank you. 💚

A beautiful reminder that compassion, like the mandala itself, is something we create together, and something we ultimately learn to let go.
Until next time. 🙏

The Compassion Project
Today, the monks opened with prayers for the people of Tibet and Nepal, holding them close in their hearts following the devastating floods and loss they have faced.

Beneath the soaring shelves and golden light of the Mortlock Chamber, one of the most beautiful libraries in the world, the sacred sand mandala continues to take shape. Each grain placed with patience, prayer and compassion, a quiet reminder of our connection to one another, and of the precious, impermanent nature of life.

A heartfelt thank you to Geshe Jampa Gyaltsen, Geshe Dorjee and Geshe Jamyang for their dedication and hard work in creating this sacred mandala, and to everyone who has visited, watched, and reflected alongside them this week. Your presence has been part of this beautiful act of compassion.

Sunday 30th August 2026 is the final day to witness this sacred creation, from 12–5pm, before the moving dissolution ceremony at 4pm. All are welcome 🙏
