❤️ Friendly Monthly Heartworm Reminder — Red Collar Rescue

It’s the first of the month — time for heartworm prevention.
At Red Collar Rescue, every dog in our care gets their heartworm treatment today.
A simple dose protects their heart, their health, and their future.

If you haven’t already, give your dog their monthly prevention and keep them safe all year round.

This reminder could save a life.

❤️ Week 10: Heartworm Journey – Oreo

6 years, 7 months • Medium Male • Border Collie

Oreo came in with his older sister Storm, and heartbreakingly, both tested positive for heartworm. They’re now about halfway through their treatment — a slow, careful journey that asks for patience, calm, and plenty of gentle support. He has such beautiful manners.

Oreo is copying beautifully with treatment. You can see those little sparks of wanting to play, those moments where his natural Border Collie joy tries to peek through — but he stays very calm and steady, respecting the quiet pace his recovery requires. He’s doing everything right, and we’re so proud of him. Oreo when we clean his Pen he will go lay in the kennel and watch down the hall way.

He’s also a big snuggler, happiest when he’s tucked beside you soaking up cuddles and well‑deserved pats. Oreo is soft, affectionate, and wonderfully content to simply be close to someone who makes him feel safe.

Heartworm is easy to prevent but incredibly hard on dogs once they have it.
A simple monthly preventative or yearly injection keeps them safe, healthy, and out of months of stressful treatment and confinement — so they don’t end up like Oreo.

Prevention is kindness.
Protection is love.

Every fortnight we check in with Red Collar Rescue Inc. to help some doggo's find their forever homes ... this week ...

🐾 Bella — 7 month old Kelpie x

Sweet, sensitive, and finally stepping into her confidence.

Bella arrived with her buddy Andy, both of them shut down and unsure when they first came through our doors. But over the past month, Bella has been quietly blossoming — and now her personality is shining through in the loveliest ways.

Bella bounds out for playtime with a whole new spark. She loves to run, stretch those Kelpie legs in the big paddock, and then circle back for cuddles, snuggles, and her signature gift: enthusiastic kisses. She’s affectionate, gentle, and genuinely joyful once she feels safe.

Bella is still a puppy with plenty to learn, but she’s bright, willing, and becoming more confident every day. She should suit most homes, including families with kids — ideally older ones who understand giving her a little space when she needs it.

🐾 Bilo — 5 year old Male Border Collie X

Bilo arrived at Red Collar Rescue with his sister Sally after their owner sadly fell on hard times and could no longer care for them. These two have been together for a long time, and they’re coping far better in this new environment when they have each other close by. We’d love to see them adopted together — they’re bonded, gentle, and genuinely comforted by one another.

Over time, with patience and the right support, we can see the possibility that they may adjust to separate homes. But right now, they’re happiest side by side.

Bilo is incredibly sweet and very friendly. He’s loved every bit of attention — especially the butt scratches, which he thinks are the best thing ever. Out in the paddock, he and Sally walk together like a little team, always checking back to make sure you’re still part of their adventure. If one comes over for a pat, the other follows. It’s adorable, and it shows just how connected they are.

He has beautiful eyes with gorgeous patches around them, giving him a soft, expressive look that makes him instantly endearing.

Sweet nature, a bit shy at first. Should suit most homes. Is fine with the male dogs she has met.
