Meet Suki and Peppa

🐾 Meet Suki (aka Suzi)
11 month old Australian Cattle Dog Cross

Suki only joined our Red Collar family five weeks ago, and in that short time her sweet nature has really begun to shine. She arrived quite timid, but pairing her with Diesel — our confident male Kelpie — has helped her settle beautifully. She takes comfort from calm, steady dogs and gentle humans, and she’s slowly learning that the world isn’t so scary.

Suzi is a soft, affectionate girl who loves her morning cuddles and greets her people with a happy tail after a good night’s sleep. She’s currently in a home where someone is around most of the time, but she has coped well with being left for 4–5 hours on her own.

🐾 Meet Peppa
9 year old Staffordshire Bull Terrier Cross

Peppa is a sweet senior girl who loves a peaceful life and would be happiest as the only dog in her new home. She came into care with her younger buddy Boo, but she really much prefers having her humans all to herself — soaking up the love, the sunshine, and the quiet moments that make her golden years feel safe and special.

Peppa adores people in true Staffy style. She’ll follow you around the yard, settle into a warm sunny patch, and enjoy simply being near you. She loves slow, sniffy wanders, a comfy spot by your feet, and every b***y scratch she can politely request. She’s shown lovely manners and tries her best to hold on for her toilet breaks.

Which of our wonderful dogs will Chantal talk about with Matty and Trace??

To find out make sure to listen 🎧 out on radio with Hitz939 Bundaberg from 6am

Our boy Boo has just finished his Heartworm treatment, on Sunday he got to enjoy a nice stroll out in the big field.

Heartworm is easy to prevent but incredibly hard on dogs once they have it. A simple monthly preventative or yearly injection keeps them safe, healthy, and out of months of stressful treatment and confinement — so they don’t end up like Boo.

💙 Week One: Meet Boo — Our First Heartworm Warrior

3 years, 5 months • Male • American Bulldog

Boo is just about to reach the end of his heartworm treatment, and after everything he’s been through, he truly deserves a loving home to help him heal. He arrived in rough shape with heartworm on top. Even with all that, he’s remained the sweetest, most easygoing boy, quietly taking life as it comes.

Boo isn’t a big man for pats, but he’ll happily accept some butt scratches. He loves to snuffle around, check out what’s happening, and then settle beside you like an old soul on a front porch watching the neighbourhood — and yes, he may even offer his opinion on what’s going on. His adorable little underbite gets us every single time.

He’s a cheeky, loveable boy who does his own thing but still wants to be near you. Not overly cuddly, not dramatic about affection — but once he’s finished inspecting the world, he’ll sneak in a cheeky kiss just to let you know he cares. And if given the chance, he’d absolutely be a couch potato, happily lounging the day away.

Boo is a favourite among a few of our volunteers — there’s just something about him. If you’ve got a quiet home and a soft spot for dogs with character, especially one who appreciates a gentle, quirky, old‑man‑in‑a‑young‑body vibe, then Boo might be your perfect match.

Heartworm is easy to prevent but incredibly hard on dogs once they have it. A simple monthly preventative or yearly injection keeps them safe, healthy, and out of months of stressful treatment and confinement — so they don’t end up like Boo.

Over the next few weeks, Red Collar Rescue will feature our Heartworm Warriors

Each week, we’ll be sharing the story of one of the 11 dogs Red Collar Rescue is currently treating for heartworm. That includes the 9 still waiting in the shelter and the 2 lucky ones already in foster care — all of whom could have been spared this long road if prevention had been given.

We’ll introduce you to one of our heartworm warriors, share where they’re at in their treatment, highlight their unique personality, and celebrate the foster carers who are helping 2 of our 11 dogs heal in a calm, personal home environment. Get ready to meet a new brave heart on their journey to recovery every week.

Over the coming weeks, you’ll meet dogs like Boo, P***y, Luna, Spike, Chewy, Molly, Blondie, Diesel, George, Oreo and Storm — each with their own story, their own challenges, and their own gentle heart hoping for a safe place to heal.

Every one of these beautiful souls is somewhere along their heartworm‑treatment journey. Some are just beginning, some are pushing through the tough middle stage, and a few are slowly making their way toward the finish line. What they all need is the same thing: a calm, loving home to rest in while they recover, instead of spending months confined to a shelter pen.

Heartworm treatment is long, stressful for the dog, and expensive. Sharing their stories each week helps raise awareness about the importance of prevention — a simple monthly tablet or yearly injection can stop dogs ever needing this level of care.

Meet Trixie and Ebony

🐾 Meet Trixie
1 year 3 months • Female • Medium Mastiff X

Trixie is a confident, striking girl with a big personality and a whole lot of smarts. She’s settled beautifully into shelter life and has even helped keep a few of the cheeky boys in line — she doesn’t tolerate nonsense and the lads know it. She plays well with male dogs who can match her energy and confidence, though she’s probably not suited to small breeds.

Trixie should suit most homes, though older kids may be a better match simply due to her size and enthusiasm. We’re happy to consider all applications.

🐾 Meet Ebony
2 years 3 months • Female • Mixed Breed

Ebony isn’t just beautiful — she’s a bright, happy, affectionate girl who brings sunshine wherever she goes. With her sleek, glossy black coat and her sweet, friendly nature, she’s the kind of dog who wins people over instantly.

She’s a sweetheart through and through, the kind of girl who would happily curl up on the couch for cuddles after a good play session. Playful, loving, and eager to belong — Ebony is ready for her forever family.
