A ringtail's diet consists of the following.
20% young peppermint leaves to include flowers, 20% young eucalyptus leaves and flowers, 20% acacia [wattle] leaves and flowers, 10% plumbago flowers, 10% Grevellia flowers foliage is toxic to ringtails, 10% New Zealand Christmas tree foliage is toxic to ringtails unless tolerance has occurred ringtails will die. 5% jacksonia only flowers, also citrus fruits, stone fruits, nut trees foliage, mango and pawpaw are favourite please net your mango and pawpaw trees or leave only 1 piece out for them.
They only have one set of teeth, once tooth decay starts, your ringtail will lose condition and finally lose their life so please no sweet things like fruit.
Ringtails will eat charcoal from burnt trees and also fruits from conifers both are an emetic also helps to settle abdominal pain.
There is a very strong bond between infant and female in as such the infant will continue to try and wake the mother even when she has passed on, at times the infant will die on top or beside of its mother. Urgent care must be provided to the infant in these cases. A mothers heartbeat and warmth can be lifesaving , but your own heart beat will aid an infant as well as a ticking clock, I will place an infant next to my heart in short term situations 2 or 3 hours no longer, then a clock when settled, keep still and quiet during this time. So time is very important and good care is vital . and understanding ringtail behaviour will aid your diagnosis's in the ringtail recovery process.

On another note Pinjarrah is covered in a thick blanket of smoke. Prescribed burning Whitaker forest block next to Myara mine site getting ready to clear all vegetation for mining, Was their a Flora and Fauna survey applied to this area prior to any Parks and Wildlife prescribed burning ?
I know they brought in shooters to cull the kangaroos.
so I guess all the wildlife was burnt or died from smoke inhalation like, micro bats, ringtail possums, brush tail possums and include their babies that they are carrying on their backs, late nesting black cockatoo's too bad for them and their juveniles that cannot fly out of the hollow.

Really lets cow tow to an American company that could not care less take the majority of profits out of Western Australia or give you and I the feeling of goodness when Alcoa offers a grant or donates money all to cover for the shameful acts of cruelty to our wildlife and have parks and wildlife prescribe burn forest blocks so that we don't get see the actual blood and guts animals in pain or running for life just to be run over or severely injured, or parrot chicks left to die , so they better call a wildlife rehabilitation person to make them feel better or show that they care.
and believe me when I say that their environmental people cannot say anything on process of clearing or tell anyone on just how many species were left to burn as this would upset people.
Well they can always put forever chemicals [pefes] in our drinking water or better still support another expensive desalination system and clear more bushland to build the desalination unit.

Mandurah CoM land 2 habitat trees cut down for firewood, age group between 300 and 400 years of age habitat trees for Cockatoo's, ringtail possums, brush tail possums, bats, Boobook owls, cut down for firewood, But there are new signs on this area for dumping of rubbish, fine of $125,000. 00. shame about that as the person who cut down the trees drinks a certain type of beer and leave his rubbish behind. Where is the camera?
