🌿 clay workshop: make your own trinket dish 🌿

This is a beginner-friendly workshop for anyone who’s been curious about clay but hasn’t known where to start. Absolutely no experience needed!

Over the session, you’ll be introduced to the basics of hand-building: pinching, coiling, and simple slab construction as you spend 2 hours making your own botanical trinket dish, which will then be fired and glazed after your session, ready for you to pick up in the following weeks 🌿

This workshop is facilitated by wonderfully knowledgeable ceramic artist Andrea Buschner, who has years long experience teaching beginners all about the meditative practice of clay hand building. Come for a relaxed morning of creativity and fun.

Come grab a coffee at Local Hero Coffee Roaster before heading upstairs to studio III, to see what our resident artists Eden Payne & Anna Francesca Seymour have been working on during their residencies. Kamistore will also be open so you can have a browse and check out some beautiful new unique things in store.

Not your average life drawing class 💅🏼

Once a month we open the studio for a women’s-only life drawing session, facilitated by the wonderful Jessica Davina - Bespoke Art Experiences. It’s a chance to get together with your friends (or come solo and make some new connections!) for a creative reset in a warm, relaxed, welcoming environment. BYO & light snacks provided. Absolutely no experience needed.

• What makes Kamispace a neuro-affirming art studio?•

In our kids classes, we base our neuro-affirming approach to art making on autonomy.

Our kids classes are also neuro-affirming because:

➡️ we only run them in small group sizes (no more than 8) so that we can devote time, attention and focus to each child
➡️ kids are allowed to move their bodies (and play!) and are not expected to sit still
➡️ we use appropriate materials for the art making activity based on age, giving kids the opportunity to engage deeply in their art making (no Kmart paint here!)
➡️ the art making is child-led, with zero pressure to perform
➡️ we focus on process over product, allowing children the creative freedom to explore
➡️ our studio is purpose built to accommodate for sensory needs
➡️ our facilitators all engage in a neuro-affirming approach
➡️ we are proudly neurodivergent run, and we put a lot of energy and time to ensure that children feel seen, safe and supported in our space

Our Kami Kids Studio after school program is now running after school on Wednesdays. Very limited spots are available in this small weekly session. Link in bio ❤️

Sharing a little glimpse into the magical world of studio III 🪐

Fun fact: alongside running classes, workshops and events, Kamispace also operates as a working studio for professional artists.

Studio III is our dedicated artist studio, where our resident artists spend most of their time during their residency with us.

Studio III is usually closed to the public, but open during select times of the year when our artists run open studio days. Follow along to catch the next open studio date 📅

• NOW IN RESIDENCE: EDEN PAYNE •

Kamispace has warmly welcomed Eden Payne, who is currently taking up residence in Studio III as part of our 2026 Artists in Residence program.

Eden Payne is a South African born artist and designer. Her practice is grounded in connecting deeply with our shared ecology and embracing more-than-human perspectives. Her work explores how our perception and value of objects shifts with their form, acknowledging that everything is made up of earthly resources and always in a state of flux. She fosters a notion of care and reinvestment into neglected things as an act of protest against the human culture of waste and is frequently drawn to materials found in gutters, crushed on highways, tangled on reefs and washed up on shores.

Eden is using her time in residence at Kamispace to further develop these themes, with an exhibition of new work planned for September 2026. Sign up to our newsletter via our website to stay up to date on our AIR program.
