What’s shaping colour in commercial interiors for 2027?

Dulux Australiahas just released its 2027 Colour Forecast, showcasing the colour trends and influences set to shape interior design in the year to come. The 2027 forecast points to a clear shift: away from perfection and digital curation, and towards spaces that feel human, grounded, tactile and emotionally restorative.

For the commercial design and fitout industry, that means colour is doing more than simply creating visual impact. It’s helping shape how people feel, connect and experience a space.

The Dulux Colour Forecast 2027 introduces three distinctive palettes:

🌿 Sensory – Grounding greens, warm browns and raw, tactile tones inspired by nature and everyday rituals.

🍇 Treasure – Rich berry hues and jewel tones that embrace personal storytelling, layered interiors and a sense of opulence.

💙 Play – Joyful colours, playful blues and bursts of orange that bring energy, optimism and freedom of expression to a space.

And one colour is taking centre stage across all three: blue. Dulux’s Colour Forecasters predict blue will increasingly be embraced as a new neutral, offering designers a versatile alternative to traditional neutral palettes.

For Australian architects and interior designers, the forecast presents an opportunity to move beyond trend-driven design and create commercial environments with warmth, personality, depth and a stronger emotional connection.

Behind the calm, refined interiors of Chatswood Chase’s new Level 1 luxury precinct lies a remarkable feat of coordination, precision and collaboration.

With approximately 8,500sqm of luxury retail space and more than 20 global brands, the project brought together offshore manufacturing, complex supply chains, exacting tolerances and dozens of specialist teams – all working towards a shared opening milestone.

From Loewe’s meticulous 44mm planning grid to Louis Vuitton’s 120m-long GFRC façade, discover the fitout expertise and behind-the-scenes challenges that helped deliver one of Australia’s most ambitious luxury retail precincts.

From starting out as a labourer at just 15 to founding Gorilla Construction () with no network or roadmap, Joshua Vassallo has built an impressive career grounded in craftsmanship, creativity and a genuine people-first philosophy.

Just over a year after launching Gorilla Construction, Joshua took home an IFA Award for Best Retail Interior (under $250k) for the Frankii project — recognition that reflects his drive to push boundaries and deliver exceptional work.

Now, with ambitions to take Gorilla Construction nationwide, Joshua is proving that great things happen when you combine hard work, strong relationships and a willingness to take a leap.
