Bringing the spirit of the Mediterranean to Sydney’s iconic Fish Market precinct, Hamsi Taverna is a hospitality destination designed to celebrate great food, music and connection.

Delivered by Unita in collaboration with Alkot Studio and Efendy Group, the project transformed a challenging waterfront site into a vibrant, contemporary Turkish taverna inspired by the Black Sea and Aegean coastlines. Thoughtful value engineering, bespoke detailing and close collaboration ensured the design vision was realised without compromise.

From layered textures and natural materials to a striking bar solution developed to overcome site constraints, every element contributes to an authentic and memorable dining experience.

AI has advanced in a very short time and the question has quietly shifted from “what can it do?” to “what can’t it do?”.

With all the AI noise, it is often hard to know what any of it means. Especially with the pace of change and all the AI products and platforms coming out almost daily.

The wait is nearly over! Entries for the Interior Fitout Awards, Design Awards, Manufacturer/Supplier Excellence Awards, and Apprentice of the Year Award will officially open this month 🏆

If you have completed (or will complete) a project between 1 May 2025 and 30 September 2026, now is the perfect time to start considering which projects you may wish to enter. Please be aware there will be a short window to enter, with entries closing on 30 September 2026.

We're putting the finishing touches on this year's program and will be sharing entry details, categories and key dates very soon. Keep an eye on your inbox and here on social media for the official launch and everything you need to know about entering.

A standing ovation for NSW’s newest industry icon 👏

At the recent IFA NSW Apprentice & Design Awards, held at Concord Golf Club, Peter Leavers was honoured as the recipient of the 2026 IFA NSW Icon Award — recognising an extraordinary career spanning five decades in the interior fitout industry. Peter's award was made even more special by being presented by his long-time friend Ross Haron of Transform Interior Projects, who had worked alongside Peter as an apprentice at H & E Sidgreaves, and by Bryan Sidgreaves, IFA Life Member, NSW Icon and former employer and mentor to both Peter and Ross.

From starting as an apprentice carpenter & joiner at H & E Sidgreaves in 1976 where he worked for an extraordinary 18 years, to building the highly respected Leavers & Lawrence Shopfitters with Derek Lawrence — another Englishman and former Sidgreaves tradesman — Peter’s contribution to the industry has been immense. A skilled tradesman, mentor, business owner and long-time supporter of the IFA, Pete has shaped countless careers while delivering projects across Australia.

Known for his craftsmanship, leadership, generosity and dedication to the trade, Peter continues to give back to the industry he loves — mentoring the next generation and staying hands-on right up until recently completing what may have been his final installation project at Concord Golf Club.

Congratulations Peter Leavers — a true industry legend, respected by all who have had the privilege to work alongside you. 👏
