🍴 Mixing It Up in the Kitchen | August Kitchen Highlights

There was plenty happening in the kitchen throughout August! 👩‍🍳💙

Our participant continued developing confidence, independence and practical cooking skills by taking on a variety of new recipes and learning new techniques along the way.

August's creations included:

🥟 Red Curry Dumpling Bake
🍲 Seafood Chowder
🥬 Chicken San Choy Bau
🍰 Carrot Cake with Caramel Frosting

Every cooking session is another opportunity to build confidence, strengthen everyday life skills and enjoy creating something from scratch.

🎉 Bake & Banter Group - Term 3 celebration!

Participants worked together to prepare ingredients, cook the BBQ, and proudly serve lunch to members from other Mix It Up groups. It was a fantastic way to celebrate a successful term and showcase their hard work.

🎨🪁 Creativity Takes Flight at SALA

Last month, two of our participants had their artwork proudly displayed as part of the Rosefield Art Collective's SALA exhibition, Let's Go Fly a Kite.

The exhibition celebrated creativity, collaboration and community connection, featuring a collection of kite-themed artworks alongside handmade quilted kites and community art installations.

Opportunities like our Creative Corner group provide participants with the chance to explore their creativity, develop new skills, and express themselves through art. Having artwork displayed in a public exhibition is a wonderful way to build confidence, share talents, and connect with the wider community.

We love seeing participants pursue their interests, showcase their abilities, and take part in experiences that help them connect, grow, and live life their way.

🌱 Building skills. Growing confidence. Increasing independence.

Did you know your NDIS plan may include funding designed to help you build skills for everyday life?

Improved Daily Living is part of the Capacity Building budget and may support eligible participants with things like learning new skills, developing strategies for greater independence, communication and social skills, and accessing appropriate therapy or assessments.

But here's the thing:

Building independence doesn't always mean doing everything on your own.

Sometimes, it's about having the right support to learn, practice and build confidence — one step at a time.

It's also important to understand that Improved Daily Living and Assistance with Daily Life are different types of support.

💙 Improved Daily Living is generally about building skills and capacity.

💙 Assistance with Daily Life is generally about receiving assistance with everyday tasks.

For example, learning how to plan and budget for your weekly groceries is about building a skill, while receiving assistance to complete your grocery shopping may fall under Assistance with Daily Life.

At Mix It Up, we believe independence looks different for everyone. Sometimes it's about doing something completely independently. Sometimes it's about having the right support beside you.

And every step forward counts. 💙

NDIS funding is individual to each participant. Always check your plan and make sure a support is an appropriate use of your funding before proceeding.
