Yes, line dancing is back in Donald!

Tonight there’ll be another come and try for free night. Everyone had a great time last week and we look forward to welcoming you along for a scoot or two.

It kicks off (see what I did there….) at 7pm at Senior Citz in Hammill Street.

And remember, it’s open to all ages.

Don’t forget, our senior Citz Winter Lunch is on this Thursday, 16 July 2026, at the Mt Jeffcott Hotel, at 12 noon. This lunch and a drink are free for those that are already financial members.

If you’re coming along, you need to book your spot and select your meal, salad or veg, and drink by 4pm Tuesday. Either call Wendy on 0409 005 065 or pop in to Snr Citz from 1.30pm to 4.00 pm Monday or Tuesday.

CITZ BITZ

Membership is booming at Donald Snr Citz with a whopping 54 members currently. It's always nice to see a few new faces around the place.

Our Winter lunch is now scheduled for Thursday, 16 July, so if you're a member, keep the date free! Lunch will be free for paid up members.

As the picture shows, our members have also been doing their bit to deal with the fuel crisis. Between walkers and riders, the car park has looked deceptively sparse at times (though the weather in the last week has tested some).

MAHJONG

Mahjong continues to be popular, with a number of new faces joining the fun and developing an addiction. Some of their winning faces are shown in the photos. As usual, broken bones have slowed some down, but not for long.... We are a hardy crew! Also shown is a fairly rare winning hand with all one suit (with wildcards).

BOWLS

There has been some beautiful bowling happening from the ladies. The Mahjong players enjoy being a cheer squad at times. Of course the bowls have been known to head for the exit or visit the audience at times. And I'd better not mention the lace unmentionables........

500

Spirited 500 games continue, with many being the battle of the sexes. We were left wondering whether BH now has Marion & Joan as sister wives, after "in sickness or in health" was heard from the 500 table....

Here’s an article for you from Dare magazine on the links and benefits of strategic games like Bridge and Mahjong, such as improving brain health and social interaction. And these benefits are not only for Seniors.

In January our Bridgers were lucky enough to be visited by Lisa Hambour. Lisa is a Director of the Darwin Bridge Club. She was raised in Warracknabeal and was happy to track down a game in the area while she was visiting. Lisa may have thrown a player or two (especially BH) with her high skill level. It was great to have her visit.

Everybody is welcome to come and drop in. Whether you’re a local that wants to see what it’s all about, or a visitor to the area. So feel free to pop along to give your brain a workout and have a laugh.

CITZ BITZ

And just like that we're back.....
Actually we kept rolling along over the Christmas/ New Year period. 🥴 Just Christmas day off and we were back at the tables. We even had a visiting junior senior playing Mahjong. He got a bit overexcited during the game & dropped a loud expletive. 🤬 Who raised him, tsk, tsk.

Mahjong

January has been eventful. Kerry W proudly scored her first Mahjong & now there's no stopping her.
Mahjong became a blood sport, with first aid required during a game. Don't worry JR, the blood has been mopped up.
Jenny C & Leonie H just proved nothing stops Mahjong players! The rooms have looked more like an outpatient recreational activity for the mortally wounded.

500

Jenni D has achieved new highs?/lows? She scraped the bottom of the barrel at 6 handed 500 with 51 pips. She has bettered (?) Dales 52, and is taking over the dishonour board. Great work Jenni 👏 😆 🤣

Bowls

The bowlers are having a break at the moment. We hope to see you back again soon.

AGM

An AGM will be held at the rooms at 1.15pm on 31 January 2026. We hope to see you there.

And that's just about a wrap for Donald Senior Citz for 2025.
You never know what will happen around that place. Never a dull moment, from flying objects to some innocent flashing......
We recently had a turnout of over 30 for our lovely Christmas lunch at the Jeffcott. 🎄 🎄
Most then came back for an afternoon of Mahjong & 500. We found the 500 players get a bit rowdy after a few cool beverages. 🍺 🍻 🍺 🍻
It's been a great year, with lots of new faces. We look forward to seeing everyone next year.
Meanwhile, all the best for a lovely Christmas to all of you, and a safe, happy, healthy and exciting New Year. Stay tuned for more exciting activities in 2026!!!!!!
