Dapto Poultry Club Inc.

Dapto Poultry Club is a family friendly organisation of Poultry and Waterfowl breeders. Dapto Poultry Club was formed in 1954 and became incorporated in 2002.

For the last 70 years we have called the Dapto Showgrounds home and we are now the only poultry club still active in the Illawarra. We have 45 financial members and juniors play an important role in the Club. New members are always welcome. The current committee: President - Anthony Mountney, Vice President - Melanie Wiffen, Secretary - Melissa Bonnitcha, Treasurer - Donna Tisma
The Club is dedica

ted to the promotion of keeping, showing and breeding pure bred poultry. Rare breed poultry is encouraged to help keep them alive as numbers are dwindling. We meet up nearly every month at the Groundz Precinct or an alternative location. Our Annual Club Show is held on the 4th Saturday in June and we regularly fill the shed with 550 birds on show in state of the art metal cages on wheels. There is the possibility to acquire more cages in the future to grow the Shows and not have to turn people away. This year we are holding the NSW State Junior Championships in May at the Groundz Precinct. It will be held in conjunction with an Interclub Show between Dapto Poultry Club and Nowra Poultry Club. This will attract Junior poultry exhibitors from all over NSW and our friends from down South will come for a fun day out. Our members also run the poultry section for the Dapto A&H Society every year at the Dapto Country Show in September and it is a wonderful display of quality. This is a huge draw card for kids and their parents that come to the show each year.

As NSW continues its response to H5 bird flu, now is the time to review your biosecurity practices and help protect your backyard birds.

Good biosecurity is one of the best ways to reduce the risk of disease in your flock:

🐓 Keep feed and water sources away from wild birds
🦆 Prevent contact between wild and domestic birds using netting or fencing
🦃 Clean and disinfect bird housing, feeders and drinkers regularly
🐤 Quarantine new birds before introducing them to your flock
🐭 Store feed securely to prevent contamination from pests

Know the signs of H5 bird flu:

• Sudden death
• Lethargy or reduced activity
• Swelling around the head and neck
• Coughing or nasal discharge
• A sudden drop in egg production

If you notice any signs of disease or unexplained deaths in your birds, report it immediately to the Emergency Animal Disease Hotline on 1800 675 888.

So proud of all the amazing kids that came to the shows, the Poultry Clubs around NSW that supported the Show, the sponsors who came on board & judges who gave up their time for this special event. I'm going to miss doing it next year at Dapto but all good things must come to an end. The baton has been passed to Wauchope Poultry Club Inc and I'm sure they will do a brilliant job and keep it going.
