King Island Chamber of Commerce Driving Sustainable, Economic, Social & Cultural Growth on King Island Dollars spent locally support and maintain our community.

We live in a unique community where we are greeted by name in local stores, where owners and staff go out of their way to meet your needs and to help you get just what you want. On King Island services are delivered by people who have chosen to live here and enjoy the sense of community and the special spirit found here. Local businesses face more and more challenges, online shopping and the beckoning of national and international retail hubs. It is for this reason that the newly formed King island Chamber of Commerce is urging you, where possible, to shop and buy locally. Local businesses employ local people - people who have children who go to school; people who bring partners who work part time; people who have friends who come and visit. They create jobs for our family and friends, and they build a community that's worth living in. Support our Chamber of Commerce by becoming a member. Great news!

Colleen Reardon has been appointed Chief Executive Officer of the Tasmanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, becoming the first female CEO of the organisation in its 175-year history.

Ms Reardon has been Acting CEO since May this year and has served the TCCI for 16 years, including as Chief Operating Officer.

TCCI Chair Becher Townshend said the Board’s decision was unanimous.

“Colleen brings a rare combination of long-term commitment to the Chamber, deep connections across Tasmanian business and government, and substantial experience in leadership, operations, policy and advocacy,” Mr Townshend said.

“She has proven herself in the acting role, and the Board is confident she is the right person to lead the TCCI into its next chapter.”

Ms Reardon said she was honoured to take on the role.

“The TCCI has represented Tasmanian business for 175 years, and it’s a privilege to lead it,” Ms Reardon said.

“Business needs a strong, credible voice in Tasmania’s public and political debate. My priority is to make sure the TCCI delivers that, and that our members see real, practical value from the Chamber.”

Earlier this year, CCA held a series of workshops with council and industry to discuss data centre development, and the challenges, risks and opportunities they could potentially influence on the Cradle Coast.

What became clear through the conversations we were having was that there is a lack of clear, plain language information about how data centres work. Understanding key aspects and variables of this fast-growing industry is vital if we are to make informed decisions about their place in our region.

Further work is under development and recently announced by the Tasmanian Government. The Premier has announced the establishment of a Local Community Benefit Fund, contributed to from AI infrastructure developers (https://www.premier.tas.gov.au/latest-news/2026/october/major-ai-investment-must-deliver-for-tasmanian-communities) and the development of Expectations for Data Centres and AI Infrastructure Developers (https://engage.building.tas.gov.au/draft-expectations-data-centres-and-ai-infrastructure-developers).

The CCA team, in conjunction with Carbon Zero Initiative, has put together some information that simplifies and explains some of the important facts to be aware of. Head to our website for all the details.

Last weekend I attended a world-class cultural event, where glamorous models paraded even more glamorous creations by talented artists from all corners of the globe, perfectly choreographed to original music.

The Paper on skin Wearable Paper Art Competition. Tasmania, Awards Gala could have held its own in Paris, Milan or New York. It was that good.

As an aside, last night I heard a tourism industry leader from Hobart mention that it had been hard to find accommodation in Devonport because “there’s some paper thing on”.

I smiled to myself and quietly committed to ramping up our advocacy in this area. Clearly, we still have a bit of work to do when it comes to ensuring that those tasked with promoting our state know what’s happening on the North West Coast.

Still, it’s fabulous that Paper on Skin filled our city with visitors. I’m not surprised, and I have no doubt they will leave impressed, perhaps even pinching themselves, as I was, that something so extraordinary happened right here in Devonport.

Congratulations to Lyndal Thorne and her team, Council, sponsors, artists and everyone who helped make it happen.

Events like this help us readjust our sense of what’s possible here. They encourage us to aim a little higher, be a little braver and think a little bigger about our city and its future.

And that’s how we grow Devonport.

Remembering Terry Perry

The King Island Chamber of Commerce extends its sincere condolences to Terry Perry’s family and friends ahead of his funeral tomorrow.

Terry was a dedicated member of our community, and together with his late wife and their boys, he ran TG & DJ Perry, supporting many local groups and community initiatives over the years.

It was fitting to have Terry and TG & DJ Perry featured on our Buy Local campaign banner — a small recognition of the contribution they made to our community.

Our thoughts are with Terry’s family and friends at this time.🎣
