Winter is here, which means respiratory viruses like are circulating across much of Australia.

While can impact people of all ages, older adults and those with underlying health conditions are at increased risk of severe disease.

RSV protection is now free for all Australians aged 75+, and for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged 60+.

If you are not eligible for the free program, you may still be able to receive the vaccine with a private prescription. This includes anyone aged 60-74 years and people from 50 years with a medical condition that increase their risk of severe RSV.

Speak to your GP, pharmacist or community vaccination provider for more information now that winter – and RSV season – has arrived.

Don’t go unprotected.

For further information about RSV protection for older adults, see links in comments.

Introducing Cobba!

Cobba is a Kelpie x born approx 25th June 2025.

Cobba was brought into the facility as an unmicrochipped stray & sadly no-one came looking for him.

Since being at the facility Cobba has been an absolutely beautiful boy. He's super affectionate, eager to please, food motivated, walks beautifully on lead, knows how to 'sit' & 'shake' (sometimes). He's starting to learn how fun toys can be and he loves to wrap his arms around your waist for a cuddle & kiss.

Cobba tested quite well with other dogs. He met a small male puppy and he was quite excited, play bowing, trying to bop him on the head to play (I don't think he realised how powerful his big foot was compared to the pups little body though). He also met a larger male, adult dog & while he was a little stand-offish at first, he quickly settled and did the same play style as with the puppy. We tested Cobba with two large female dogs, who quickly showed signs of aggression towards him & he reacted similarly back to them out of defence. We believe Cobba could be suitable to live with another dog. If you have a friendly dog at home we would need to do a meet & greet with them to ensure they get along before going home.

Cobba appeared to be quite scared of our facility cat and did his best to back away slowly so as not to startle her. Given his reaction we believe he could be suitable to live with cats if given a slow & controlled introduction to them.

Cobba is untested with pocket pets at this time.

While Cobba is still quite young he does have moments of being a crazy puppy, however he is highly food motivated so he will be easily trainable and these loyal dogs love to please their owners. While he's still learning to control his excitement he may accidentally knock over small children.. but he will apologise to them by smothering them with ALL the kisses.

He still has so much to learn about the world and life and would love to be in a home where he is included as a member of the family. Cobba will thrive in an environment that guides him with positive direction and lots of love and attention.

If you think you could be that furever family for Cobba, please contact our friendly staff via email at [email protected] or 0499 900 272 to organise a meet and greet.

His adoption fee includes his desexing, vaccination and lifetime registration. He is also regularly treated for fleas and worms.

Cobba is currently located in East Maitland.
