🚜 🔥 FARM FIRE UNITS – SWITCH TO UHF 10

Across our communities, Farm Fire Units play an important role in supporting firefighting operations.

Often, local farmers and landholders are among the first to arrive at a fire, and in our more remote areas, the next RFS truck can still be a long way away. Your local knowledge, equipment and willingness to lend a hand can make a real difference.

But when multiple RFS trucks, Farm Fire Units and other resources come together on a fireground, communication is critical to keeping everyone safe and working together.

📻 When you arrive on the fireground, switch your UHF radio to Channel 10.

UHF 10 is used on the fireground within the North West Zone (Bogan, Coonamble, Warren & Walgett LGA's) so Farm Fire Units and firefighters can communicate, share important information and coordinate what’s happening around them.

When assisting at a fire, remember to:

• Make contact with RFS crews when you arrive
• Switch your UHF to Channel 10
• Follow the directions of firefighters
• Let someone know if you are leaving the fireground
• Most importantly, look out for each other and stay safe

🔥 We all have the same goal — protect our communities, work together and make sure everyone gets home safely

Safe burning is your responsibility 🔥

Practice safe burning every time. Even experienced landholders should review safe burning practices, check the weather, and be prepared to control the fire at all times.

A fire permit is required during the Bush Fire Danger Period - and may be required at other times depending on local conditions. Permits are free and easy to get. Apply online at www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/notify

If a bush fire started today, could you safely protect or move your livestock?

The best time to make a plan is before an emergency. Planning ahead can reduce stress and help protect your animals.

When preparing your plan, consider:

• Do you have enough feed, water and supplies for 3–7 days or longer?

• Is there a safe place on your property with multiple access routes?

• Are your livestock identifiable?

• Can you relocate them quickly, and do you have safe transport and backup options?

• Are your water supplies, shelters and infrastructure protected?

• Do you have basic medical supplies and rescue equipment?

• Can a neighbour or friend help if you’re away?

During a bush fire, the NSW Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development and Local Land Services support rural landholders by assisting with preparedness, coordinating animal rescue, evacuation and emergency care, assessing affected animals, and supporting recovery.

Plan ahead today so you’re ready when it matters most. https://www.nsw.gov.au/departments-and-agencies/local-land-services https://www.dpird.nsw.gov.au/dpi/biosecurity/emergency-management

In an emergency, every second counts.

Make sure your property entrance is clearly signed, easy to identify from the road, and fitted with visible property numbers at the main gate or fence line.

This is especially important in rural and semi-rural areas where properties can be difficult to locate at night, in smoke, or during fast moving bush fires.

Clear property identification helps firefighters reach you faster when it matters most.

Take a few minutes to check your signage and ensure your property can be easily identified in an emergency. It could save valuable time when help is on the way.

More than 30 firefighters from Fire and Rescue NSW and NSW RFS worked together today at a structure fire at the Sons of the Soil Hotel in Coonamble, successfully containing the fire to a small section of the building.

NSW RFS crews from Coonamble HQ, Combara, Willow Downs, Gulargambone and Pine Grove supported Fire and Rescue NSW with the firefighting effort. NSW Police, NSW Ambulance, Coonamble Shire Council and Essential Energy also assisted to ensure the incident was managed safely and effectively.

A great multi agency effort and a strong outcome for the Coonamble community.
