Coonamble Shire Council (CSC) has issued a BOIL WATER ALERT for properties connected to the Coonamble water supply due to a system failure at the water treatment plant.

The water treatment plant is not able to keep up with the demand currently being experienced. This has subsequently created problems with the treatment and supply of the water. The water supplied is currently not meeting the Australian Drinking Water Guidelines, making drinking water unsafe for consumption due to the potential of E. coli or Total Coliforms within the water supply.

Council is addressing the issue by pumping water directly into the reticulation system to ensure household supply is maintained while using other bore supplies to provide enough water for the water treatment plant to work adequately.

Water used for drinking or food preparation should be brought to a rolling boil to make it safe. Kettles with automatic shut off switches can do this. Water should then be allowed to cool and stored in a clean container with a lid and refrigerated.

Everyone, particularly people caring for young children, should be careful to avoid scalding when you are heating and then cooling the water.

Residents are advised to use cooled, boiled water or bottled water for:
โ€ข Drinking
โ€ข Brushing teeth
โ€ข Washing and preparing food or beverages
โ€ข Preparing baby formula
โ€ข Making ice
โ€ข Petโ€™s drinking water

Tap water may be used directly for:
โ€ข Showering and bathing (residents should minimise that amount of water taken into their mouth). As a precaution babies and toddlers should be sponge bathed
โ€ข Washing dishes by hand in hot soapy water or in a dishwasher provided dishes are air-dried before being used after washing
โ€ข Washing clothes

Alerts have been sent to local households and services, local media outlets, posted online at coonambleshire.nsw.gov.au and on social media via CSCโ€™s social media accounts.

Coonamble Shire Council will provide regular updates on Coonambleโ€™s water supply quality through its webpage and its page. Updates will also be provided to local services and media.

The Safer Coonamble Group (SCG) would like to submit a request to the Coonamble Shire Council to consider upgrading existing streetlights or installing additional lighting to ensure the safe use of its community member. We invite community members to assist us in identifying areas within the Coonamble township that require improved illumination. Please specify the areas of concern in the comments. Your input is crucial in bringing this important matter to the Council's attention.

Late last night, Councilโ€™s General Manager reached out to the Principals of Walgett Community College High School, Walgett Community College Primary School, and St Josephโ€™s Primary School, inviting them to bring their students to the Walgett Swimming Pool this week between 11 am and 3 pm.

๐ŸŽŸ๏ธ Entry will be free for all students and accompanying teachers or supervisors.

๐Ÿ’ฆ During these visits, the splash park will not operate, but the large and small pools will be open for swimming and water activities.

We encourage each school to come along, enjoy the pool, and make the most of these supervised sessions in a safe and positive environment.

Council has also contacted a range of local community groups, inviting them to get involved by organising coordinated and supervised activities at the pool. If your community group would like to hold an event or program at the pool, please get in touch with us at [email protected].

Letโ€™s continue working together to make the Walgett Pool a place for everyone to enjoy safely and proudly. ๐Ÿ’™

In regional areas, NSW Police Force (who do an amazing job) can be a long way away when someone is threatening your home, your person, or the people you care about. Castle Law essentially works off the principle that a โ€œpersons home is their castleโ€. I believe people should be able to defend their home, property and family without a perverse fear of prosecution. We are talking about criminals with no respect for you or your property.

My Parliamentary colleague John Ruddick MLC - Libertarian Party has supported a petition to have this debated in Parliament of NSW. I think itโ€™s a debate that should be had. The aim is to - "provide residents of New South Wales the right to defend their property with whatever force is deemed appropriate."
I am in favour of Castle Law, where it protects a person using reasonable and not excessive force to defend against any threats, primarily to the lives of people but also to property.
It is an issue that should be discussed in Parliament, and the views of the public also need to be heard so that we can come to some reasonable set of laws that protect citizens from prosecution by criminals who are threatening people or property.

Yes - currently criminals can take legal action against a person who defends themselves, the people they love, or protects the property they worked hard to acquire.
