“Like blowing out a birthday candle”

A lot of you have had questions on how air is used to put out fires in remote locations instead of water 💦 So here’s a video that demonstrates the technique and a bit of an overview below 👇🏾

How Leaf Blowers Work on the Fire Line:

Clearing Fuel (Firebreaks): Blowers sweep away dry leaves, and grass much faster than hand rakes, exposing mineral soil to stop creeping surface fire.

Smothering and Extinguishing: Just like blowing out a birthday candle, a concentrated 150+ mph blast of air can instantly interrupt the heat and oxygen balance of low-flame grass or surface fires, effectively blowing them out.

Pushes into the Black: Rangers direct the air stream inward toward the already burned area to push glowing embers and unburnt litter away from the edge.

Accelerating Burnout: Stubborn smoldering debris that cannot be moved can be hit with the full force of the blower to rapidly increase oxygen, forcing complete combustion within minutes so it burns out quickly and safely.

Fire Training 🔥💪🏿

PUAFIR204 and PUAFIR303 are Australian Nationally Recognised Units of Competency that form the core training standards for wildfire firefighting and land management.

Ranger Curran achieving this milestone makes him the first Mimal Ranger to officially complete the advanced wildfire suppression level, blending centuries-old traditional Indigenous fire knowledge with modern, accredited safety standards.

The word Kung can be used to refer to the honey, the hive or the bees, it is a generic term for sugarbag.

Native bee-hives are a source of honey, wax and pollen. They can be found by watching the small native bees and seeing where they fly into their hives, or listen to trunks of treats hear if the bees are active inside.

Beehives can be found in trees, and-beds and in the ground.

The honey from native bee hives is called morli or yuk-no, it is dark and thin, but very sweet. In the past it was mixed with water in paperbark coolamons to make a sweet drink. Alternatively, it was mopped up with djoh or munmun grass and then sucked from the grass.
