SWHC team are so thrilled to receive this beautiful gift from Maxine Coombe. Maxine painted this for the Network and sent a letter of appreciation “a big thank u to the organisers, first aider for who needed help. The cookies with their dedication on time meals, and the rangers that made everything run smoothly around the camp site. All the people that look after us thank u. As this was the first time I went…”

Story of painting and what each symbol represents:
• Blue circle represents the billabong out on Country at Bawurrbarnda
• The Yellow U shapes, facing outwards are the ancestors protecting the billabong and the people from the Country
• The outer U shapes, facing inwards are the women that came to the women summit from everywhere and sat down and spoke about women’s things and where they come from and where they work
• The little yellow circles represent the Country and the hills and trees, that the women passed to get to Bawurrbarnda
• The 10 purple circles with the U shapes around the outer part of the painting represent all the campsites
• The footprints represent women walking around and getting to know each other
• The wavy lines represent the women connecting together & sharing stories

This is so beautiful and something network will treasure. Thank you so much Maxine 🙏💕🫶🏾

Friday appreciation goes out to Tracy Minniecon from TM Creative Consulting who ran “Keeping Our Ways Strong” workshops exploring what matters to participants and why they work as rangers. This was an interactive workshop where participants were invited to paint kites as they shared, learned and discussed matters that were important to them revealing Country, Community and Family are at the centre of everything they do.

Tracy also presented on “Growing First Nations Exchange Program” an initiative connecting First Nations Australia’s and First Nations communities in Northern Thailand to share knowledge, culture, and community led-solutions.

Thank you Tracy for involvement and participation in Strong Women Forum 2026. We look forward to seeing where the exchange program leads.

An absolute massive thank you to Traditional Owners of Bawurrbarnda Jalkie Rickson and Anne Kelly, who hosted over 200 women at Strong Women Forum 2026.

Anne, Jalkie and family members welcomed to country and blessed all attendees through traditional smoking and water ceremony.

Both ladies shared traditional knowledge throughout the event, with stories by the fireside and during the billabong walk.

The utmost gratitude to you both and all of your family and community for making this such a special and wholesome event. Thank you 🙏 💕

SWHC Program Manager Margie O’Brien explains the water blessing and smoking ceremony: “So just near where we camped, there was a spring, and those water sources carry significant stories, and having a water blessing, that keeps us safe while we’re there. We’re on other people’s Country.

As Aboriginal people, when we travel and we go to someone else’s Country, it’s still important for us to show respect.

And because we were camping out and we were staying out bush, we want to make sure that we have that protection for us, that we’re there on Country.”

“It’s a privilege to introduce Marlaina Braun-Hayes to our wider audience. Marlaina is a young Mayilli woman and ranger with Mimal Land Management and was the artist for this year’s forum logo.

With the guidance of traditional owner Anne Kelly, Marlaina brought the essence of Bawurrbunda to life:

This logo represents the importance of the billabong, a place of life, connection and culture. The turtle symbolises the totem group, the pandanus represents Rembarrnga county, and the fish reflects the billabong, highlighting its importance as a source of life and the strong connection between Country, people and culture.

It is with great pleasure that we introduce to our wider audience MYRA | AWARD WINNING LEADERSHIP EXPERT

Myra is a proud Malngnin Gurindji and Wokka Wokka woman who ran a leadership session at our recent event on country.

Myra shared that leadership is “how you show up, how you treat others, how you connect, and what you do behind closed doors”.

She had us all up and dancing, amplifying the collective energy. Women of the network are strong and passionate leaders, younger women learning from the wisdom of their elders. These sessions build confidence and encourage women to speak up.

Thank you Myra.

Happy Monday! We wanted to share with you a fun initiative driven by Digital Women Rangers at this year’s forum. Digitial Women Rangers ran a photo competition celebrating women rangers undertaking important work on country. Submitted images celebrated how rangers are using digital technology to monitor and manage country, including the use of drones and camera traps.

Some of the images were fantastic and prizes were given out accordingly.

We hope DWR will make this an annual competition.
