Today our members took time to help at Kidsfest Emergency Services expo.

An event designed for little ones to meet emergency service persons, and have a hands on experience with their vehicles.

Despite the weather, was great to see so many people and kids getting familiar with emergency services in a safe and fun environment

This weekend our brigade have joined Illawarra Support Rural Fire Brigade and NSW RFS - Oak Flats Brigade to stand up as part of a fire response for Wings over Shellharbour.

Our bulk water joined a Category 6 appliance and stood up at Illawarra FCC for rapid response both days. Thankfully aresponse to an incident was not required.

The Hazard Reduction behind Illawarra Coal at Russell Vale has been postponed. A test burn today showed the area is still too wet.

Test burns are done in several spots around areas we plan to burn to test how effective a hazard reduction is likely to be. If the ground is too wet or even too dry it can change our plans. This is so that we keep our firefighters safe and ensure manageable fires that are effective in reducing fuel loads. In our photo you can see one of our members checking the fuel moisture readings in our proposed burn area.

This morning Bulli has sent a crew to Sydney to assist with the Anzac Day parade, while other crews attender the Austinmer Dawn Service with our colleagues at Austinmer Rural Fire Service and another crew attended the Wollongong March.

We remember the men and women who have served our nation and respectfully honour those who have paid the greatest price.

Lest we forget.

These burns are a critical part of our ongoing work to reduce fuel loads and help protect our communities, firefighters, and the environment ahead of the next fire season. Planned burns like these play an important role in lowering the intensity and spread of bush fires.

We understand that smoke from these operations can impact local communities and surrounding areas. We acknowledge the effects this may have already had and appreciate your patience and understanding while this important work is carried out.

Smoke may be visible over the Northern Suburbs and may settle in low-lying areas, particularly overnight and early in the mornings. Motorists are reminded to drive to conditions if encountering smoke on roads.

We encourage residents to stay informed and take simple steps to minimise exposure to smoke where possible.

Thank you for your continued support as we work to keep our communities safer.

Hazard Reduction Postponed !

Unfortunately after overnight rain, and the expectation of a colder weather day tomorrow, the decision has been made to postpone the planned hazard reduction to the west of Corrimal.

Our crews will continue to assist with hazard reduction work in other areas to our north and south, and will hopefully try again in the near future.

Weather permitting, crews from NSW RFS Illawarra Sutherland Team will implement a hazard reduction burn on the escarpment above Corrimal on Thursday 23 and Friday 24 April.

This 75 hectare hazard reduction burn, will provide an area identified as being important in controlling bushfires, with less fuel loading. This will help firefighters contain and control future bushfires quicker and keep the community safer.

This also means that smoke will be visible around the Northern Suburbs into the weekend. Please call 000 if you see any fire without a truck in attendance.

To stay up to date on planned burning, download the Hazards Near Me app. The app can send you push notifications when there are new incidents or when information changes. The app also shows current information about local emergencies, including flood, bushfire and tsunamis, and has advice on what to do to stay safe.

As 2025 draws to a close, we take a minute to pause and reflect on the year that was.

This year our brigade has responded to 95 emergencies in our local area.

We have sent members south to Victoria and as far as Canada to fight fire.

We have sent members to the North of our state, and beyond the border for storm and flood clean up.

We farewelled our semi trailer bulk water after decades of service, and welcomed our new rigid.

We trained new members, and upskilled our current ones.

We have grown as a brigade again this year, so cheers to wherever 2026 will take us.

Wishing all of our followers a Happy New Year!
