Yesterday some Rainbow Shoelace Project beads ran the Sydney Marathon (thanks to Russell whose feet they were on)!

Did you know our beads have also walked the Kokoda track and they have been to Antartica!

Abbie here - I want to introduce you all to a project that I’m really passionate about.

The Jordan Liberty Project is a documentary and community project created by filmmaker Jason King following the loss of his daughter, Jordan, to su***de.

What really stands out to me about this project is the focus on authentic conversations about su***de and mental health.

It is so important to be able to have honest conversations about su***de - conversations that don’t shy away from the difficult stuff, but that are also filled with compassion, understanding, hope and connection.

We need to make conversations about mental health and su***de something we can have before someone reaches crisis point.

That’s why I wanted to share the Jordan Liberty Project with the Rainbow Shoelace Project community.

With so much noise from the haters about the q***r community “stealing” the colour purple - I thought it was important to look at the WHY?

Why Purple?

““We chose a colour because we wanted the support to be visible. The opposite to feeling ‘othered’ is to feel unified. If for one day everyone who cared wore the same colour then young rainbow people would know they were not alone.”

And that is POWERFUL!

It would be great if we didn’t need days like Wear it Purple Official day - but unfortunately - we still do!
