Community Alert: Standing with Jackii & Beautiful Sienna 🩷

Here at BOHP, we know that navigating major medical milestones takes an absolute village. A wonderful local Illawarra mum, Jackii, reached out to our community as her daughter, Sienna, prepares for an upcoming PEG surgery.

While PEG surgery is a huge step forward in supporting Sienna's health, nutrition, and overall comfort, the additional costs around supporting someone who needs additional care, and safety equipment, is an indescribable toll on a family.

As a peer-led community, we look out for our own. If you have the capacity to chip in, or simply have a moment to share the link to spread the word, it would mean the world to this beautiful family.

Let's surround Jackii and Sienna with all the Illawarra love and strength we’ve got! 💪✨

🚨 The NDIS is life-saving. Cutting it is devastating.

As a peer-led organisation, we know firsthand that the NDIS isn’t just a line item on a government spreadsheet. It is independence, safety, and our right to exist in the world on equal terms when funded right.

Right now, plans to slash billions from the NDIS stand to strip vital funding from hundreds of thousands of disabled people. Let’s be clear: Disabled people deserve to live with dignity, just like everyone else.
When the NDIS is funded adequately, it is a long-term cost saver. It lifts families out of unpaid crisis management, gets people into the workforce, gives people with a Disability a quality of life and returns $2.25 to the economy for every dollar spent.

Cutting this funding doesn't make the need disappear. It forces the burdens back onto families and leaves individuals with a disability sometimes no choice but to stay in domestic and family violence, forces more work on already struggling systems leaves our most vulnerable community members entirely stranded.

We need an NDIS that is fully funded and fair.

Stand with the disability community. Say no to cruel cuts. 👉 Sign the petition and fight back: https://greens.org.au/campaigns/no-ndis-cuts

The Labor Government is planning to cut $36 billion from the NDIS, removing support from 160,000 people while increasing defence spending on weapons and submarines. Cutting the NDIS isn't just cruel – it's bad economics. Evidence shows that every dollar invested in the NDIS returns $2.25 to the e...

No one should have to go without basic human dignity, especially in a public hospital. 🏥💔

Right now, too many patients and victim-survivors in NSW public hospitals are being denied essential access to period products and fresh underwear. The campaign started by our CEO is fighting to change that by calling for free, accessible vending machines in every public hospital.

It’s easy, affordable, and a fundamental matter of healthcare dignity.

👉 Take action and email the Health Minister today: https://www.abigailboyd.org/campaign_mymonthlymatters

Thank you Abigail Boyd for your support!

Shockingly, NSW hospitals are not required to give victim-survivors of sexual violence new underwear when they’ve had theirs removed or need a fresh pair in an emergency department. And too many women who get their period while in hospital are being given adult nappies, forced to use gauze, surgic...

I started Beacon of Hope Project with a victim service payment and a promise, to build what I wish existed at the start of my own healing journey 🩷

Today we're a team of 15 volunteers with lived experience, who've shown up for 40+ women in peer groups, 88 vendors across 4 events, and 60+ hours of free advocacy.

We're not a polished organisation. We're real people, in recovery, navigating the same system, just a few steps ahead, reaching back.

This is your sign. Things do get better.

And until you can hold hope for yourself, we'll hold it for you.
