Last Friday, Friends of Cardinia Creek had the honor of attending the 2026 Casey Community Awards as finalists in the Environmental & Sustainability Champion category ๐ŸŒฟ

Jarod & Meaghan represented the group on the night โ€” and while we didnโ€™t take home the award, we are feeling incredibly proud and even more inspired.

A big congratulations to the winners and all the finalists. It was so motivating to be in a room full of passionate individuals and community groups doing such meaningful work across Casey.

Weโ€™re really proud of our volunteer-run group and the difference our members make at Cardinia Creek Reserve ๐Ÿ’š

๐Ÿšง Cardinia Dam Upgrade โ€“ What You Need to Know ๐Ÿ’ง

Melbourne Water is planning a major upgrade to Cardinia Reservoir to help secure Melbourneโ€™s water supply for the future.

๐Ÿ› ๏ธ Whatโ€™s happening?
The dam, originally built in the 1970s, will be upgraded to meet modern safety standards and support our growing population.

๐ŸŒฟ Environmental considerations

Some vegetation removal is required to enable construction
Efforts are being made to minimise impact
Plans include revegetation, including carbon forest planting and surrounding parklands

๐Ÿšถโ€โ™‚๏ธ Park impacts
Cardinia Reservoir Park is expected to be closed during construction (anticipated from early 2027 to late 2029) to ensure public safety.

๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ Community engagement
Melbourne Water will be consulting with the community, with opportunities to provide feedback and attend information sessions.

This is an important long-term project to protect one of Victoriaโ€™s key water assets while balancing environmental and community impacts.

For more information or to get involved, keep an eye out for upcoming updates and engagement opportunities.

๐ŸŽ‰๐ŸŒฟ Happy 28th Birthday, Friends of Cardinia Creek! ๐ŸŒฟ๐ŸŽ‰

For 28 years, volunteers have been beautifying Cardinia Creek โ€” w**ding, managing rubbish, and having fun along the way! A huge thank you to Judy Smith and all those who came before us for making this journey possible. ๐Ÿ’š All are welcome to join the adventure!

A huge thank you to our wonderful volunteers who joined us for Clean Up Australia Day and gave Cardinia Creek Reserve some well-deserved care ๐ŸŒฟ
Together, we tackled the entire reserve โ€” including significant rubbish along Manuka Road โ€” collecting over 20 bags of rubbish and w**ds.
It was also fantastic to reconnect with prior members โ€” we love seeing familiar faces back in the group.
If youโ€™ve been thinking about getting involved, weโ€™d love to welcome you. Whether itโ€™s lending a hand at a clean-up or joining the committee in a friendly, low-pressure way, every contribution makes a big impact. ๐ŸŒฑ

Landscape reinstatement works will take place at Beaconsfield Park from 3 February for approximately 6 weeks as part of pipeline maintenance.

Works include landscaping, turfing and reinstatement of park furniture. Some temporary impacts to pedestrian access may occur, with traffic controllers onsite to assist.

Environmental protections are in place to ensure Cardinia Creek and its fauna are not harmed.

Please refer to the attached notice for full details and contact information.

๐ŸŒฟ Great turnout and big impact at Cardinia Creek! ๐ŸŒฟ

Thanks to everyone who joined us yesterday at Cardinia Creek for a fantastic working bee. Volunteers tackled Scotch thistles as tall as adults, cleared endless pseudocapsicum along the creek bed, and it was brilliant to see the kids getting stuck into wandering trad and discovering a few missing tennis balls!

A huge effort from a great mix of familiar faces and new volunteers โ€” every w**d removed helps restore this important creek corridor for wildlife and the community. ๐Ÿ’š

Keep an eye out for our next event โ€” weโ€™d love to see you there.

Teams, time limits and serious clean-up energy. SpoGomi brings people together to tackle litter while having fun doing it.

Born in Japan in 2008 and now global (with the first World Cup in 2023), teams score points for both the amount and type of waste collected โ€” with cigarette butts topping the leaderboard.

Less litter. More laughs. Big impact.

Welcome to the wonderful world of SpoGomi: bring people together, reducing litter and having fun!

SpoGomi was invented in Japan in 2008, and the first SpoGomi World Cup was held in Japan in November 2023. People in teams collect garbage and litter with in a time limit and specified area. Points are rewarded for both the amount of waste collected by the teams, and what kind of waste is collected. For example, cigarette butts are the highest-scoring items.
