Excited to be launching two new programs late this October.
Balingup Theatre Club (BTC) and Create & Connect art classes for our homeschool community.

Super excited to be launching ✨️BALINGUP THEATRE CLUB (BTC). 🎉

Born from last year's Mary & Frankenstein and this year's Hansel & Gretel, we have developed a year-round community theatre club, encompassing all aspects of stagecraft and theatre.

🎭 We kick off with a term of drama classes focused on devising, improvisation and character development.

Beginning February will be a term of script- based scenes and a bit of musical theatre in readiness for our play rehearsals starting again in May ready for our July production.

🎬 Not wanting to be on stage?!
No worries!
We will be holding workshops and classes throughout the year in costume design and making, props and scenery, backstage skills and technical skills in sound and lighting.

This is a longterm project that we are thrilled to be launching, so come along and try out something new or jump back on stage for some acting, singing and dancing!

Safety:
Please note, we are striving make BTC as open to all as possible in a safe and welcoming environment.
All ages over 7+, genders, and backgrounds are welcome.
Over 12 years drop-off is fine. 7-12years will need to have an adult joining or waiting in the hall.
All facilitators have current Working With Children Cards and first aid certificates.

About the Program
Field Journal studio is an invitation to slow down, look closely and experience the world through the eyes of an artist. Over eight weeks, participants will develop their own Field Journal—a place to sketch, write, collage, experiment, collect ideas and record observations of the changing season. Inspired by the Noongar six-season calendar and the natural rhythms of Country, each session encourages curiosity, creativity and connection to place while developing language and exploring the Elements and Principles of Art through playful, hands-on experiences. Rather than producing a new "finished artwork", students are invited to embrace creativity as an ongoing practice rather than a destination.

Facilitated by Sarah Meaves.

Sarah is a Visual Arts educator and pre-service secondary teacher with experience working in metropolitan, regional and remote Western Australian schools, having recently settled in Balingup with her family.

Sarah is passionate about offering meaningful opportunities for young people to connect with their innate creativity, and build relationships with community and the natural world.

Join us at the historic Balingup Town Hall this Sat for an evening of storytelling, poetry and music from author Peter Murphy and Perth singer/songwriter and publisher Fred Rea.

Fremantle to Freedom (published Feb 2026) explores what became of the ‘Catalpa 6’ after their daring prison escape.

When six Irish political prisoners (Fenians) made a daring escape from Western Australia in 1876, little is known of what became of them after their arrival in America. Did they return to Ireland? Marry and have a family? Go back to their revolutionary ways? Live a long and fruitful life? Live long enough to see Ireland win its independence from Great Britain? All questions scholars, historians, and lay historians never asked or unable to answer...until now.

This work by Peter Murphy and Fred Rea – who for over thirty years collectively and meticulously researched the famous Catalpa Escape – may help answer some of those vexing questions and more in an evening of entertainment for the whole family.

A few weeks ago our little team at BACH got a new member. Meet Poppy (left) who has joined as our treasurer and grants officer. (Big yay!!)
Poppy brings a wealth of knowledge working with not-for-profits in the arts and community sector. We are so grateful to have her on board!

Rochelle (right) is our secretary/administrator and in the centre is Chrissy (me!) the chair and artistic director.

We also have a fab commitee; events stylists and tech support Sandy and Sean Mitchell plus our wonderful youth advisor Molly and her mum Kris who worked backstage for Hansel & Gretel.

If you are a supporter of the Arts and like what we do in Balingup you can involved!

We are currently looking for some new members to join our lively and creative team.

We would love someone who can support us in email marketing. If you have some skills in that area with a couple of spare hours a week to volunteer, please get in touch!

Other jobs including events set-up and front of house, putting up flyers and posters, even making morning tea once a month! Vollies get a free ticket to the events they work at plus good vibes working alongside a great crew and meeting artists.
