BACH BACH (Balingup Arts and Cultural Hub) Bringing arts and cultural experiences to our local community, supporting wellbeing, resilience & growth

The Balingup Music Experience comprises a group of local residents committed to bringing a wide range of musical experiences to the town including professional performances, community music workshops, master classes, music therapy and wellbeing programs as well as compositional, musical theatre and educational programs. The music genres include, but not limited to, chamber, classical, choral, jazz

, blues, folk and country. It is proposed that the majority of musical experiences provided to the community take place in the Balingup Town Hall and in particular in the Lesser Hall. Larger events in the Shire of Donnybrook-Balingup public spaces are planned also to be a feature of the initiative. Foundations:
Local support for varied but regular music programs has been established through the Balingup Brookvale House concerts since 2013. Over that period, some 50 not-for-profit concerts have been provided, covering a wide range of genres. With 50 concerts fully subscribed, over 3 000 people have attended these concerts raising over $130 000 in door sales, the proceeds of which have gone to paying musicians. To date all administration costs have been voluntary. The Balingup Music Experience Developments to February 2022:
To build on the above Brookvale House history, audience development and legacy, the Balingup Progress Association (BPA) has agreed at its February 2022 meeting to bring the Balingup Music Experience under its umbrella and to provide the benefits that this move brings. The Balingup Music Experience aims to contribute directly to BPA’s current strategic plan focusing on Balingup as a resilient, thriving community with a vibrant, village feel and a community that creates, learns and grows together. Immediate plans
Main projects:
- Establishment of a 2022-2023 music program for public performance in the Lesser Hall
- Raising funds for the purchase of an appropriately-sized grand piano for the Lesser Hall

Costume design, set design, technical design- sound and lighting, production and stage management are all creative jobs that employ many people behind the scenes of what we see on stage when we go to the theatre.

For careers in the creative industries to stay relevant we must support live performance, and with discussions around AI happening everywhere, live performance is perhaps more relevant now than ever before.

Wonderful article about our brilliant community show!✨️

🎭 🧺Balingup's first performance of Hansel and Gretel sold out last night, as the the community got behind the young actors involved.

It comes as the rising cost of living has taken its toll on major productions, leading to the cancellation of shows like Beetlejuice and Waitress in Perth.

Balingup Director Chrissy Maddison said it was always a gamble putting on a show.

"We're only trying to sell 80 to one hundred tickets whereas these massive theatres they have to sell thousands of seats," she said.

"I really feel for actors when their shows get cancelled but on the other hand we're down here doing the grassroots version.. we're delivering art right on our doorstep."

The Ballingup performance is part of this weekend's Telling Tales Story telling festival.
