FAN Board 2022-25 Wrapped: It’s a wrap – and time to say FANBye! After a thorough handover and some slow goodbyes, the FAN Board 2022–25 is officially passing on the baton. 🤝

Serving the Forum Alpbach Network and the over the past three years has been a privilege and pleasure. We are deeply grateful for the trust, openness, collaboration and countless Alpbach moments shared with the Board, team, advisory bodies and the wider community — in meetings, over meals / drinks, with big ideas and plenty of laughter. 🥂

We are delighted to see a strong, diverse and highly motivated new FAN Board (2025-28) take over and already make their mark: .moser .k .panjakidze . You’re already doing great and we can’t wait to see what more you’ll accomplish. We’re cheering you on! 👏

To everyone we worked with along the way: thank you. It has been a pleasure, an honor and a blast. Don’t be a stranger. Odds are, we’ll see each other again – even in Alpbach. ⛰️

🎊 Ready to get inspired for EFA25? Here are some of the FAN projects! 💡

The Alpbach community is diverse, driven & ingenious. Every year, members of the Forum Alpbach Network (FAN) and beyond join forces to launch creative projects, initiatives & events. A few highlights from the past year:

🎂 FANniversary – On the 80th anniversary, the FAN celebrates its own history with: a countdown campaign, the first book on FAN members & ideas, and FANniversary Goes Local – events connecting more closely with Alpbach locals.

🌊 – Launched by to fight marine litter (cigarette butts), presented at the UN Ocean Conference 2025 in Nice.

🤝 Cross-Border Dialogue – .cs co-hosted a conference & hackathon on border cooperation. Based on this, an association was founded to scale the format further.

🌐 Awareness campaigns – On Black History Month (Feb) & Orange the World (Nov/Dec), raising awareness, sharing knowledge & hosting events.

🧡 Feminist calling cards – Artworks & microfeminist calls to action turned into alternative “business cards” for EFA25 to critically reflect on gender bias in networking.

🩺 FAN Health Initiative – Filling the gap of health topics at the Forum with new events & projects.

🇪🇺 EU Elections 2024 – Events, youth dialogues, poster campaigns, recommendations for policymakers & more.

🐦 .eu – One of the biggest Alpbach Ideas success stories: an app supporting first-time voters.

The Alpbach community is diverse, driven & ingenious. Every year, members of the Forum Alpbach Network (FAN) and beyond join forces to launch creative projects, initiatives & events. A few highlights from the past year:

🐊 FAN Spring Conference in Brno, Czechia 🇨🇿

Every 6 months, we from the Forum Alpbach Network convene to discuss current topics of the FAN and beyond, work on projects and initiatives and strengthen our community. For each FAN Conference, another Club/IG is the host. 🤝

This May, .cs invited us to wonderful Brno, Czechia, a city with good food, an intriguing history and interesting sights – for instance the dragon of Brno. 🐊 The Club went out of their way to organise an amazing accommodation for us and to plan an amazing program supplementing the agenda: a panel discussion on the EU on different levels with Othmar Karas, Klaudie Mrkusová, David Macek and Hana Martinkova, a city tour of Brno, morning runs and dance nights in the coolest bar in town. 🍹

While the side program was amazing, we also had a packed conference agenda. Some of the points we worked on were the FANniversary projects, the program of the FAN Committee for the EFA25 and the EFA25 program presented by René Schlee (Head of Program of the EFA), an extraordinary FAN General Assembly, our Rules of Procedure, FAN Strategy and even a video message for a FAN wedding. 🙌💍

🐝 FANBehind the scenes: The work of the FAN Board 💙

The Forum Alpbach Network has two main organizing bodies: the FAN Board and the FAN Committee. The FAN Board coordinates the network’s activities throughout the year and for a 3-year-long mandate. The FAN Committee is elected annually and coordinates the network’s activities at the Forum. 💡

As of today, the FAN Board consists of 6 regular and 1 co-opted member: Jenni, Klaudie, Flo, Andi, Philipp, Dorotea and Maria. 🤝

The FANB has weekly online check-ins, monthly jours fixes with the FAN, a mentoring and buddy system for all Clubs/IGs, regular meetings with the EFA team and also with the different EFA advisory boards. As Chair and Vice-Chair of the FANB, Jenni and Klaudie also represent the voice of the youth on the EFA Board. 📣

On top of all this, the FANB gathers for a strategy weekend every half year to meet in a location of one of the board members and discuss strategic issues, the programming of the FAN Conferences, FAN working groups and other larger FAN projects in person. The FANB Strategy Retreat in autumn 2024 took place in Nesselwängle, Tyrol 🇦🇹, and the one in spring 2025 near Dubrovnik, Croatia 🇭🇷.

💫 FAN Fall Conference 2024 in Bad Ischl, Upper Austria 🇦🇹

Every 6 months, we from the Forum Alpbach Network convene to discuss current topics of the FAN and beyond, work on projects and initiatives and strengthen our community. For each FAN Conference, another Club/IG is the host. 🤝

Last November, welcomed us to Christmassy Bad Ischl! This was a special occasion and location as Ischl was the European Capital of Culture in 2024. To highlight this, the Club organised a panel on this very topic with Elisabeth Schweger, Hannes Heide, Leopold Schilcher and Othmar Karas. Moreover, thanks to our amazing hosts, we got to enjoy traditional Austrian Christmas markets and food and made the acquaintance of the notorious Krampus. 👹

Apart from all this, our main focus lied on our packed agenda. For this, the EFA team also attended and contributed to the conference. Some of the points we worked on were the FAN contributions and input for the program of the European Forum Alpbach 2025, new members of our network, the FAN Orange the World campaign and the FANniversary. 🙌

A special shoutout goes out to , former President of and stakeholder manager of the EFA for the Forum Alpbach Network. After years of hard work and dedication for the Alpbach community, she decided to open a new professional chapter in her life. To thank her, the FAN surprised her with a video collage and her own FAN Hoodie. Grazie per tutto! ♥️

🎙️ Representing the Forum Alpbach Network 🤝

The FAN is active throughout the year with events, sessions, projects, campaigns and more. Apart from these public and well visible activities, our network actively cooperates with various stakeholders – e.g. , , partners, embassies and others – and it is deeply involved in the programming and strategy of the European Forum Alpbach (EFA):

⚖️ FAN representatives take part in the EFA General Assemblies and also have voting rights to co-shape the trajectory of the Forum – organisationally, strategically. Moreover, the Chair and Vice-chair of the FANB – Jenni Zeller and Klaudie Mrkusova – are members of the EFA Board to keep the Forum updated on the network’s activities and lend a voice to the FAN when it comes to strategic decisions.

💡 On top of that, FAN members are represented in the different programming committees – finance, climate, art, security, democracy, seminars, Alpbach Ideas – of the EFA to bring in the diverse content and speaker input of the network and also contribute their own knowledge as young experts.

🔥 By the way: Last year was particularly exciting with Andreas Treichl handing over the EFA Presidency to Othmar Karas in autumn 2024, and with the EFA preparing for its 80th anniversary. Lots to do, share and push for!
