Farmers’ Field Day 2026, Ndlovu Community
What a memorable day!
Our Farmers’ Field Day brought together farmers, development partners, government extension services, traditional leadership, and the wider community to celebrate local knowledge, resilience, and regenerative agriculture.

Over and above lots of dancing 🤭, The day featured:
- Farmer-led seed exchanges that strengthened local seed sovereignty.
- Showcasing the broader landscape restoration journey taking place across Ndlovu, demonstrating how healthy soils, grazing management, biodiversity, water stewardship, and farming systems are interconnected.
- Partner exhibitions highlighting services, innovations, and opportunities available to communities.
- Agricultural and livestock extension officers from government, sharing practical technical support with farmers.
- Food demos and tasting themed around many ways of cooking “African Peas” a highly versatile and delicious legume.
- Intergenerational engagement, women, men and youths( male and female) all making meals.
- Learning, networking, and celebrating the rich agricultural heritage of the people of Ndlovu.

We were especially honoured by the presence of Chief Mvuthu, who graciously made time in her busy schedule to spend the day with us. Her encouragement and support reaffirmed the importance of strengthening partnerships between communities, traditional leadership, government institutions, and development organisations.

Our sincere appreciation goes to every farmer, partner organisation, government department, volunteer, and community member who contributed to making the day a success. Together, we continue to demonstrate that resilient food systems begin with healthy landscapes, the people working together and strong collaboration.

In the end, we learn that every small consistent step in building stability through agroecological interventions will never let you down. No matter how small, one day you’ll look back and be glad you started!

We continue to learn that One of the most powerful pathways to resilient food and ecological systems is farmer-to-farmer exchange.
In this field learning session, held recently, farmers are sharing knowledge on:
• bio-input production- to build healthy soil
• integrated pest management strategies
• Seed multiplication and communal seed banking
These exchanges are often fun, and they strengthen community knowledge, seed sovereignty, and practical resilience in our farming systems. Our collective dream; community-managed seed, food, and nutrition sovereignty, where no one waits on an outside system to thrive.

We were honored to host partners from across Zimbabwe for a learning exchange under the Zimbabwe Seed Sovereignty Program and Holistic Land & Livestock Management joint initiatives. Grateful to PELUM Zimbabwe, our convening partner

We had enriching time on the land, fun, singing, sharing practical lessons on seed systems, sorghum diversity, regenerative grazing, and community resilience. This work is no champions game, and as such the learning flowed both ways, and we are deeply grateful.

It’s been a while since we last posted, not because it’s been quiet, but because it’s been full in every sense of the word.

Full of learning, movement, hard work, laughter, reflection, and community moments that don’t always fit neatly into a post.

It’s been an incredibly busy season, with the rains arriving earlier than expected; a surprise we always welcome! We are deeply grateful to have plunged straight into agroecological trainings for this season: growing diverse crops, multiplying local seed, making bio-inputs and bio-protectors, and strengthening our water harvesting practices for improved soil moisture and resilience. At the same time, communities are regenerating grasslands through holistic planned grazing.

We’ve also been hosting Wisdom Harvesting Traditional Ecological Knowledge (TEK) dialogues, creating space for our village heads and farmers to share the deep cultural knowledge that guides a thriving ecological, social, and economic environment.
