Building lasting change requires more than a project, it requires ownership, leadership, and continuity.

The ongoing trainings under the School Readiness Initiative are strengthening the capacity of educators and education leaders to support quality early learning long after the training sessions have ended.

With the leadership of Ministry of Primary & Secondary Education, Zimbabwe and support from Roger Federer Foundation, we are complimenting the government's efforts in building systems that can sustain and scale good practices, ensuring that more children enter school ready to learn and thrive.

Strong systems today. Better outcomes tomorrow.

During the Early Childhood Development Conference hosted by Masana wa Afrika, our Director, Mercy Sakanya, joined a panel discussion reflecting on the realities of child safeguarding within communities and spaces designed to protect children.

The conversation highlighted an important truth: safeguarding is not only about creating places of safety, but about ensuring those spaces remain protective, accountable, and responsive to the needs of children at all times.

At Child Protection Society, we continue to strengthen our work around child safeguarding through community engagement, awareness raising, and promoting systems that protect children in schools, shelters, care facilities, and communities.

These conversations continue to remind us that child protection is a shared responsibility, and meaningful change begins when communities, organisations, and institutions work together to create truly safe environments for every child.

The ongoing trainings continue to provide an important platform for strengthening learning, collaboration, and capacity building within the education sector.

We are greatly encouraged by the leadership and commitment demonstrated by officials from the Ministry of Primary & Secondary Education, Zimbabwe(MOPSE), whose presence at the trainings reflects the importance of investing in quality education and supportive learning environments for children.

The engagement and guidance from Ministry officials continue to reinforce the collective responsibility of ensuring sustainability, continuity, and long-term impact in strengthening schools, educators, and communities to effectively support children’s learning, protection, and development. Strong leadership and collaboration remain key in building resilient and child-centred education systems.

Child Protection Society was honoured to participate at the Early Childhood Development Conference hosted by Masana wa Afrika in Johannesburg, bringing together stakeholders committed to advancing the wellbeing of children and families across Africa.

The conference created a valuable platform for learning, collaboration, and reflection on strengthening ECD systems through early intervention, responsive caregiving, disability inclusion, caregiver support, and community-led approaches that place children at the centre of development. We leave inspired by the shared vision of creating inclusive, nurturing, and protective environments where every child has the opportunity to grow, learn, and thrive.

Technology is becoming an important enabler in strengthening early childhood education.

Digital assessment tools like STELA are helping educators better understand children’s developmental progress, improve learner support, and make more informed decisions in the classroom.

As Zimbabwe continues to advance foundational learning, investing in both educators and innovative assessment approaches remains critical to ensuring that every child is ready to learn and thrive.

Under the leadership of the Ministry of Primary & Secondary Education, Zimbabwe, Child Protection Society, through the School Readiness Initiative, is supporting the scale up of the Smart Tablet Early Learning Assessment (STELA) tool across Zimbabwe.

With support from the Roger Federer Foundation, we are currently conducting Training of Trainers sessions aimed at equipping ECD educators with the knowledge and practical skills to effectively utilize STELA in early learning assessment.

The initiative is strengthening continuous assessment practices, improving lesson planning in line with the Heritage-Based Curriculum, and enhancing learner support within both formal and community-based ECD centres. It is also contributing to stronger systems for mentorship, coaching, and professional development among educators.

Through this integration of digital assessment tools, STELA is helping track children’s developmental progress and school readiness more effectively, supporting evidence-based approaches that ensure every child has the opportunity to learn and thrive.

Through continued collaboration with the government and our partners, EDT, ZINECDA, and MDP, we remain committed to advancing quality early childhood education and building stronger foundations for Zimbabwe’s children.

As we celebrate Africa Day 2026, Child Protection Society joins the continent in advancing this year’s theme: “Assuring Sustainable Water Availability and Safe Sanitation Systems to Achieve the Goals of Agenda 2063.”

Building a safe and child-friendly environment goes beyond protection alone. It also means ensuring that every child has access to clean water, safe sanitation, healthy spaces, and dignified living conditions. Safe water and sanitation are essential for children’s health, education, safety, and overall well-being. They strengthen families, support communities, and contribute to a healthier, more resilient Africa.

This Africa Day, we celebrate the strides being made in protecting children and creating safer, healthier environments where every child can grow, thrive, and reach their full potential.

Happy Africa Day! 🌍

Today, we look back on a special moment when Chinyaradzo Children's Chinyaradzo childrens home received a facelift with support from Higherlife Foundation.
What may have looked like an infrastructure upgrade was, in reality, an investment in creating a safer, more dignified, and child-friendly environment for vulnerable children and families.

Partnerships like these continue to show the power of collaboration in strengthening communities and improving children’s well-being. Every improved space is a reminder that when we invest in children, we invest in a better future for all.

Last week, we conducted a training session for staff at C.L.C GROUP of Schools in Belvedere, focusing on Child Protection Committees and Social Work in School Settings.

The engagement strengthened the importance of creating safe, supportive, and responsive school environments where children are protected, heard, and supported. Child safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility. Schools, parents, communities, and institutions all have a role to play in ensuring every child learns and grows in a safe environment.

Together, we can build safer schools for every child.
