On this day, April 11, 1981, Tarcisius George Silundika's remains were interred at the National Heroes' Acre in Zimbabwe. He died suddenly a week earlier in his office in the then Salisbury, now Harare. At the time of his death, TG headed the International Relations secretariat of the Zimbabwe African People's Union (ZAPU). In government, he was Minister of Posts and Telecommunications, Roads and Road Traffic, becoming the first cabinet minister to die in office in the newly independent Zimbabwe.
The funeral was attended by the State President, Prime Minister, ZAPU President, scores of diplomats from around the world and thousands of ordinary Zimbabweans who had lined the the streets of Salisbury from early morning to pay their last respects.
