Queen of Hope Children’s Home - Nyanga Queen of Hope Children’s Home (Queen of Hope) is a home-care based Children’s Home in Nyanga. Qu Sharon Mukutaire(13 )is very shy and conservative.

Queen of Hope is passionate to take care for children in need, especially orphans and vulnerable children (OVCs), by sheltering these children and supporting them to grow up in a family and community based environment. Queen of Hope is committed to providing shelter, care and parenting to children in need from Nyanga and surrounding areas. The home’s set up moves away from the traditional institut

ionalised orphanage to a family setting with the presence of mothers who take care of the children as their own, always there creating a sense of belonging. The mothers are trained and are conversant with prescribed Child Care policies and guidelines. Vision

The children at the home are from different difficult circumstances, they were brought to the home through the Social welfare It is the mandate of the Social welfare to identify suitable homes for children in need and as such children will be attached to the home though the Social services department. Currently there are four children in the home who stay with their house mother, three girls and a boy. She loves sport and is on the basketball team at her school, she also on the athletics team. A very responsible girl who is always on the lookout for her sisters and brother. Irene Mukutaire (10) is the dancer of the family, she loves dancing and singing, she is in the traditional dancing club at school. She is outgoing and enjoys cycling. Tinomudaishe Takawira (7) is the genius (he is nicknamed ‘the lawyer’. He loves reading and playing his musical instruments. He gets all the attention as the man of the house. Dadiso (6) is the glam girl, so in love with the camera and the mirror. She is interested in her dolls and playing mom, occasionally she gets jealous of the other children and wants attention of their

The children are getting their primary education at Nyamhuka primary school which a kilometre from the home. The children are going to school from Grade 1 to Grade 7 and continue to O-level. They are guided in the development of their skills and are prepared for the ‘’real world’’ by extra life skill training programs (for children from 10/12 until 18 years). These life skill training programs will be custom designed for every individual. Children must be prepared for the future in the best way

Projects
Queen on hope aspires to be self-sustaining in the future, in line with this aspiration we have rabbits, broilers and layers that are being bred at the home for sale and consumption. The projects are still small but we are striving for expansion. We also have a vegetable garden which thrives in the rainy season, vegetables are sold to the local community. In other seasons there is a shortage of water. Governance

The Board

The home is under the governance of a Board that comprises of six people. The Board is drawn from various professions; men and women. It (the Board) provides a holistic approach in the ex*****on of its services. Their immediate mandate is to formulate policies that ensure the smooth running of the home and provide the oversight role. Policies formulated are then implemented by the Staff employed by the Home. The Board is responsible for hiring any employee of the home. At the moment the Home employs three people, the Coordinator, mother and handman. The Coordinator

The coordinator also known as the hands on person sees to the administrative work of the home, supervising the mother and the handy man. The person also plays a key role of fundraising and producing reports of the home. The coordinator is the link between the Board and the staff. The Mother

The mother has the responsibility to take care of the children and raising them in a manner that is respectful and acceptable. She treats the children as her own and gives them a sense of belonging. The mother lives at the home and takes days off occasionally. She reports to the Coordinator. The Handman

The handman is responsible for fixing everything at the home,security and he is in charge of the projects at the home. He reports to the hands-on person if there are problems and gives progress reports about the home. He lives at the home and teaches the children about the projects. Friends of Queen of Hope

Friends of Queen of Hope are supporters of Queen of Hope who are interested in championing its cause. They can be professionals who could be approached for free advice and time on e.g. legal, financial, constructional, psychological, educational and medical issues to the Board of Trustees. They are also be supporters without specific qualities in terms of advising Queen of Hope’s Board of Trustees. People who can offer to take one of the children, for a couple of days/weekend or holidays into their family/house resident in Nyanga or outside. Funding
The home is funded by well-wishers and donors who willingly give to help change the lives of the Children at the home. It is our hope that you can join us and give these children in need a brighter future and help transform our Zimbabwe. Thank you for your consideration
