Transforming Agriculture Through Knowledge, Innovation and Climate-Smart Practices 🌱

At the Community Development Empowerment Organisation (CDEO), we believe that sustainable agriculture begins with empowered farmers. Through our climate-smart agriculture trainings, peer learning sessions, Farmer Field Schools, and support for agricultural shows, we are creating opportunities for farmers to acquire practical skills, exchange experiences, and learn from one another.

We are delighted by the outstanding exhibitions showcased by farmers in Wards 9 and 14 during the recent agricultural shows. The diversity, quality, and innovation displayed in their crops and farming practices are clear evidence that investing in farmer capacity development delivers lasting results.

These platforms have become more than exhibitions—they are centres of learning, innovation, and inspiration where farmers share successful techniques, adopt climate-resilient farming practices, and strengthen their resilience against the impacts of climate change. The enthusiasm and commitment demonstrated by participants reaffirm that knowledge sharing is a powerful catalyst for improving agricultural productivity, food security, and household incomes.

The positive changes we are witnessing extend beyond the fields. Families are producing more nutritious food, generating income from agricultural enterprises, and building more resilient livelihoods. This is the impact that community-led learning and collaboration can achieve.

We extend our sincere appreciation to all the farmers, AGRITEX officers, ward leadership, government stakeholders, and development partners who continue to support these initiatives. Your collaboration is helping communities build a future where agriculture is productive, resilient, and sustainable.

Together, we are cultivating knowledge, strengthening resilience, and transforming lives—one farmer, one field, and one community at a time.

Strengthening Community Enterprises, Transforming Lives! 🌱

At the Community Development Empowerment Organisation (CDEO), we believe that sustainable livelihoods are built through continuous learning, mentorship, and support. That is why we continue to prioritise the capacity development of ISAL (Internal Savings and Lending) enterprises to ensure they grow into resilient and profitable community businesses.

Today, our team, in partnership with the Ministry of Women Affairs, Community, Small and Medium Enterprises Development and ward-level stakeholders, conducted capacity development and monitoring visits to two ISAL-supported baking enterprises in Wards 9 and 14.

We were delighted to witness the remarkable progress these groups have made. Their commitment, teamwork, and entrepreneurial spirit are translating into thriving businesses that are improving household incomes, enhancing food security, and creating opportunities for families to meet essential needs such as school fees, healthcare, and daily household expenses.

These success stories demonstrate the power of investing in community-led enterprises. With the right training, mentorship, and collaboration, local groups can become engines of economic empowerment and resilience.

CDEO remains committed to working hand in hand with government departments, development partners, and local communities to strengthen livelihoods and build sustainable futures.

Together, we are empowering communities, one enterprise at a time.

Growing Nutrition, Growing Prosperity: Another Milestone for CDEO in Ward 13! 🌱

At the Community Development Empowerment Organisation (CDEO), we believe that sustainable agriculture is one of the most effective pathways to improving household nutrition, strengthening livelihoods, and building resilient communities.

As part of this vision, CDEO supported the Kushinga Nutrition Garden in Nzvenga Village, Ward 13, Nyanga, with quality pea production inputs and practical training on climate-smart and sustainable farming practices. Today, we are delighted to celebrate the success of this initiative as the pea crop has matured, been successfully harvested, and is now ready for the market.

This harvest represents much more than an agricultural achievement. It is a powerful demonstration of how investing in community capacity, knowledge, and appropriate agricultural inputs can transform lives. The peas will provide households with a nutritious source of food rich in protein and essential nutrients, contributing to improved family health and dietary diversity. At the same time, surplus produce will be sold, enabling farmers to earn much-needed income to support household needs such as school fees, healthcare, and other essential expenses.

This success belongs to the dedicated farmers of Kushinga Nutrition Garden, whose commitment, hard work, and willingness to embrace new farming techniques have made this project a shining example of community-led development. Your determination continues to inspire us and proves that with the right support, rural communities can achieve lasting food security and economic empowerment.

We also extend our heartfelt appreciation to AGRITEX Officer Ms. Chingore for her unwavering technical guidance, continuous field support, and close collaboration with the farmers throughout the production cycle. Her professionalism and dedication have been instrumental in ensuring the success of this project.

At CDEO, we remain committed to partnering with communities, government extension services, and development partners to promote climate-smart agriculture, strengthen household resilience, and create sustainable livelihood opportunities that leave no one behind.

Together, we are cultivating healthier families, stronger communities, and a more resilient future—one garden at a time.

Climate-Smart Rabbit Production Transforming Lives in Ward 13! 🐇🌱

The Community Development Empowerment Organisation (CDEO) is proud to celebrate another inspiring milestone in its commitment to promoting climate-smart livelihoods and improving household resilience in Nyanga District.

Through our Climate-Smart Small Livestock Production Project, 20 farmers in Ward 13 each received two New Zealand rabbit breeds as starter stock. Today, we are excited to report that the project has exceeded expectations. Every participating farmer now owns a minimum of 30 rabbits, with some having even more. This remarkable growth demonstrates the high reproductive potential of rabbits and the effectiveness of climate-smart small livestock production as a sustainable livelihood intervention.

The impact on participating households has been truly transformative. Farmers are now selling rabbits to generate income, enabling them to pay school fees for their children, meet household expenses and strengthen their financial security. At the same time, families are using some of the rabbits for home consumption, providing a reliable source of high-quality protein that is improving household nutrition and food security.

This success story shows that even small livestock enterprises can create lasting economic opportunities while helping communities adapt to the challenges of climate change. Rabbit production requires relatively little land, water and feed compared to larger livestock, making it an ideal climate-smart enterprise for rural households.

At CDEO, we remain committed to empowering communities through practical, sustainable and innovative livelihood programmes that improve incomes, enhance nutrition and build resilient communities. We commend all the farmers for their hard work, dedication and commitment, which have made this project such an outstanding success.

Together, we are proving that sustainable livelihoods can change lives—one household, one community and one generation at a time.

Empowering Learners Through Practical Skills for a Better Future ✨🧵

At the Community Development Empowerment Organisation (CDEO), we believe that education should go beyond the classroom by equipping learners with practical skills that prepare them for life and sustainable livelihoods.

We are delighted to witness the sewing machines we donated to Kagore Primary School in Ward 13, Nyanga, sourced through the generous support of Tools with a Mission (TWAM), now being fully utilized by pupils during practical sewing lessons.

It is inspiring to see young learners gaining hands-on experience in garment construction, learning valuable vocational skills that can one day become a source of income, self-reliance, and entrepreneurship. These practical lessons are nurturing creativity, confidence, discipline, and problem-solving abilities while laying a strong foundation for future economic empowerment.

By introducing vocational skills at an early age, we are helping to prepare children for a future where they can create opportunities for themselves, contribute meaningfully to their communities, and build resilient livelihoods.

This is a clear demonstration that when communities, schools, and development partners work together, we can transform education into a powerful tool for poverty reduction and sustainable development.

We extend our heartfelt appreciation to Tools with a Mission (TWAM) for making this initiative possible and to the dedicated teachers at Kagore Primary School for ensuring that the donated equipment is being put to its intended use. Your commitment is shaping the next generation of skilled and empowered young people.

Together, we are stitching brighter futures—one learner, one skill, and one opportunity at a time.

Building a Generation that Cares Through Life Skills Education

At the Community Development Empowerment Organisation (CDEO), we believe that academic excellence must be complemented by strong values and essential life skills that prepare young people to become responsible, compassionate and productive members of society.

Today, we continued our Life Skills Education Programme at Kute High School in Ward 14, Nyanga District, where students actively participated in a session on Empathy.

The session encouraged learners to understand how their actions, behaviour and decisions affect other people. Through interactive discussions and practical examples, students explored the importance of putting themselves in someone else's shoes, appreciating different perspectives, and responding to others with kindness, respect and compassion.

By developing empathy, young people strengthen their relationships, reduce conflict, promote inclusion, and contribute to creating safer and more supportive school and community environments. These are critical life skills that will serve them well throughout their personal, academic and professional lives.

The day's affirmation, "Empathy makes me a better person," reminded every learner that caring for others is not a sign of weakness but a mark of strong character and responsible leadership.

CDEO remains committed to empowering young people with practical life skills that nurture confidence, resilience, emotional intelligence and positive decision-making. Together with our education partners, we are investing in a future where every young person has the knowledge, values and skills to thrive while making a positive difference in their communities.

Empowering Young People Through Practical Skills! 🪑🔨

It is truly encouraging to witness the effective use of the carpentry tools recently donated to Kute High School in Nyanga through the generous support of Tools with a Mission (TWAM).

We are delighted to see that the students have successfully crafted a chair using the donated tools. This is clear evidence that practical, hands-on learning is taking place and that learners are acquiring valuable technical skills that will benefit them long after they leave school.

CDEO extends its sincere appreciation to the school's carpentry teacher, Mr. Gondokondo, whose dedication and hands-on approach are inspiring students to learn by doing. His commitment is helping transform classrooms into spaces where knowledge is converted into practical skills and confidence.

At CDEO, we believe that vocational education equips young people with the skills to create employment opportunities, become self-reliant, and contribute meaningfully to their communities. Every chair made is more than a finished product—it represents hope, opportunity, and a brighter future.

We remain grateful to Tools with a Mission (TWAM) for partnering with us to empower young people through skills development. Together, we are investing in livelihoods, dignity, and sustainable community development.
