A VOICE FROM THE CHIEF
In 2025, we collectively spread our tentacles, each in his or her own way. We poeticised from home and preached almost everywhere. The year 2025 birthed several promising global superstars from the Sailors' community. Sailor youngsters, together with scholars from Shining Smiles senior school, successfully submitted their poetry entries before the deadline to the Moonstone Arts Centre based in Philadephia, USA. This led to their esteemed appearance in the spring season's New Voices Anthology.
Also prominent were Ngonidzashe Mhizha and Kudakwashe Chipinda, both of whom made it, for the first time with WildGreens, USA. Ngonidzashe had both a short story and a poem acknowledged. Her short story Celestial Canvas, was featured in the WildGreens October magazine. Yvonne Matanhire aka Star, blossomed in both the page poetry and the spoken word stage. Her stage presence was vigorous, be it live on tour in Harare or elsewhere.
Musicians Forget Kuweyo and Proverb Nesta I, to mention but a few, released more new songs in 2025. Forget Kuweyo's collaboration with Sekuru Gudo on the song Weru, went ballistic nationwide.
Sailors Brendon Kudakwashe Musoni aka TheStarFromZion, Shalom Mugodhi aka ShalomRue, and Brian Manyati aka Towandah Ryan, had their poems successfully published in the Road to Recovery anthology published by Compassiviste in May 2025.
The poem Silent Wars, by Brendon Kudakwashe Musoni made it into the 2025 International Journal of Human Rights, Peace and Politics, titled "Cartographies of Conflict: Five Dimensions of Warfare and Beyond" through the Claim Your Space competition.
Some Sailors like Shantel Matarutse aka Shanty Hailey, went further with actively participating in the Poets For Human Rights, USA annual contests. Others proudly showcased their dancing skills and dub poetry. The likes of Tinashe Mavura and Caleb Hwariva, respectively.
We were treated to immense creativity throughout the year 2025. Undoubtedly, there are numerous other Sailors whose stories I have not had the privilege to present at this juncture.
Three editions of The Sailors Review, , were published in April, August, and December 2025. The lounge interviewees, poets, and narrative writers who contributed to The Sailors Review throughout the year did not disappoint. Hats off to Golden Maxxy, Shorai Matambanadzo, and rt.revprofkp who keep churning well-knitted poems in the vernacular ChiShona language, and Progress Muwadzuri whose oasis of short stories in the queen's language keeps glowing. With seasoned poets and writers like Angela Chirenda Rugara aka Pikitayi and Captain Takudzwa Chikepe, we have a very firm backup.
🌍Enjoy this edition🌍
