With support from ActionAid Zimbabwe, we hosted a Value Addition Practical Training at the Community Centre of Influence (Mwaka Hub) in Chimanimani, bringing together young people from Chimanimani and Chipinge.

Through hands-on learning in solar drying, participants gained practical, climate-resilient skills to preserve vegetables and tomatoes from the agroecology demonstration garden. This innovation not only reduces post-harvest losses but also empowers young people to build sustainable food systems and resilient livelihoods.

During last 2-Days of our Masterclass, we delved into two critical modules aimed at equipping participants with advanced insights into green economies and marketing strategies.

The first module, led by Perseverance Muzeya, focused on the intersection of green jobs and sustainable economies. This session aimed to empower youth champions by providing a comprehensive understanding of the green job market, including its economic implications, sustainability practices, and best strategies for promoting a green economy. A significant emphasis was placed on safeguarding intellectual property rights while fostering innovation in environmental practices.

The second module, conducted by Mr. Lovemore Sibanda, centered on advanced marketing techniques. Participants learned how to maintain brand integrity and authenticity through strategic marketing practices. The session highlighted the importance of personal branding and self-representation, encouraging young entrepreneurs to develop their individual identities in alignment with their business ventures. By integrating personal growth with brand strategy, participants were guided on how to effectively communicate their value propositions in competitive markets.

We are happy to be taking from The City Of Mutare through this transformational journey that should see them grow their businesses, stabilise and most importantly; contribute to a sustainable and resilient in Mutare.

This initiative is a product of our partnership with Hivos Regional Office Southern Africa together with Zimbabwe and Manica Youth Assembly - MAYA

On Friday, April 11th, we proudly launched our inaugural 6-week aimed at empowering youth foodpreneurs and agroprenuers in Mutare. The Entrepreneurship Masterclass being undertaken under the Project being implemented in The City Of Mutare by Green Governance Zw in collaboration with Manica Youth Assembly - MAYA and Zimbabwe

This first session focused on foundational principles of business management, crucial for guiding emerging entrepreneurs in the food sector.

We are proud to have had our first Facilitator Penelope Gotora lead an engaging and interactive workshop that delved into the core components of effective business management, specifically emphasizing Organizing, Planning, Management, and Monitoring. Participants were introduced to various methodologies and best practices within these domains, enabling them to understand how to structure their business operations effectively.

Moreover, Penelope provided a comprehensive framework for the youth champions to begin crafting their own business management plans. This included practical exercises to identify their unique value propositions, target markets, and operational strategies. By the end of the module, participants were equipped with the tools and knowledge necessary to transform their innovative food concepts into viable business models, setting the stage for their entrepreneurial journeys.

Though our Project, yesterday we facilitated for our Mutare Youth Champions to have a learning tour where they got to experience the limitless possibilities for food systems models in Mutare.

The starting point for the tour was Bongai Shamwari Centre a Women Empowerment Centre that focuses on empowering women and girls through training and capacity development. Bongai Women Empowerment Centre also operates as a learning Centre to offer children from low income families with early childhood education. It also has a hub with a mushroom house, an organic garden and a solar powered oven that used to educate the women and girls on baking.

After Bongai Shamwari the youth champions visited Our "Mwaka Innovation Hub" site to allow them to experience and understand the vision behind the setting up of the centre and also get their perspective on what a safe hub will look like.

We then visited the mushroom site that was developed by Mutare City council in partnership with Gender Links. There young people got to learn more about mushroom production and got some insights on how to package and label end products. The experience was eye opening as it also allowed us to learn more about what we can do to improve the mushroom house that we intend to develope at the Mwka Innovation Hub

The youth champions also passed through the Mutare Vegetable market to experience food waste and management mechanisms being applied by vegetable traders.

This was then followed by a tour to a garden that is being managed by one of the youth champions. The youth champion shared how he has managed to maintain a backyard garden with vegetables. He also shared his experience of a young agro-entreprenuer.
