It was day of Joy, Hope & Love in Rusitu

Windows of Hope ended the year on a powerful and heart-warming note by hosting an Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC) End-of-Year Party in Rusitu, Chimanimani District. The celebration brought together over 700 orphans and vulnerable children, filling Rusitu with laughter, music, dancing, and smiling faces. For many of these children, it was more than just a party it was a moment of belonging, dignity, and reassurance that they are deeply loved and not forgotten.

Children shared meals, played games, received treats, and celebrated life together. For a few precious hours, worries faded away, and hope took centre stage. The joy on their faces reminded us that when a community comes together with compassion, lives are truly touched and transformed. Our heartfelt gratitude goes to our partners and supporters whose generosity, commitment, and belief in this vision made this initiative a great success. Your support turned compassion into action and created memories that will live in the hearts of these children for years to come. Together, we are restoring hope, protecting childhoods, and building brighter futures, one child at a time.

Windows of Hope Expands the Fight Against Human Trafficking & Exploitation in Ndima and Rusitu districts!

Windows of Hope rolled out continued trainings on Anti–Human Trafficking and Exploitation in Ndima and Rusitu (Chimanimani) districts. These awareness sessions are part of our mission to build safer, more resilient communities that stand united against exploitation in all its forms.

What makes this programme unique is its inclusive approach, which brings together a diverse mix of voices. Traditional Chiefs provided cultural authority and community leadership, Pastors offered moral and spiritual guidance to safeguard families, Community Caregivers shared first-hand experiences of protecting vulnerable groups, Teachers served as knowledge facilitators guiding learners, while School Children took on a dual role as both participants and trainers, ensuring young voices lead awareness efforts among their peers. This united front is creating a powerful shield of protection: Chiefs and village heads are upholding cultural values that safeguard the vulnerable, pastors are instilling moral responsibility, caregivers are championing grassroots awareness, teachers are nurturing informed learners, and school children are boldly standing against exploitation by training their peers to recognize fake scholarship scams and other deceptive recruitment tactics.

The trainings equipped participants with knowledge on understanding human trafficking and its root causes, identifying red flags and indicators, laws, reporting mechanisms, and the role of media, cyber safety, and psychological support in prevention. With Ndima and Rusitu now part of this movement, communities are stronger, more aware, and better prepared to combat trafficking and exploitation. Together, we are building a future where every child, woman, and man is safe, valued, and free.

Windows of Hope Takes the Fight Against Human Trafficking to Chimanimani & Chipinge!

This week, Windows of Hope is rolling out Anti–Human Trafficking and Exploitation Trainings in Chimanimani and Chipinge districts. These trainings are part of our ongoing mission to build safer, more resilient communities that stand united against trafficking and exploitation. What makes this programme truly unique is the inclusion of school children as trainers. By equipping young learners with knowledge and skills, we are raising a generation of peer educators who can teach their classmates, spread awareness among friends, and become champions of child protection within their schools and communities.

In particular, Form 4 and Form 6 students have been identified as a key target group. They are often the most vulnerable to deceptive offers, such as fake scholarships or fraudulent opportunities, that traffickers use to lure unsuspecting youth. Empowering them with the right information equips them not only to resist exploitation but also to safeguard their peers.
But we are not stopping there. To ensure the fight against trafficking is rooted deeply in the community, we are also training Community Care Workers, Teachers, and other government officials the everyday heroes who work closely with families at grassroots level. Their role is critical in detecting early warning signs, supporting vulnerable households, and creating protective environments for children.

Equally important, pastors and faith leaders are part of this training. With their influence and spiritual authority, pastors are key voices in shaping community values and mobilizing action against exploitation. Their involvement ensures that awareness reaches every corner from the pulpit to community gatherings reinforcing the message that human trafficking has no place in our society. Through this inclusive approach empowering youth, caregivers, and faith leaders we are building a strong, united front against human trafficking and exploitation. Together, we are cultivating a culture of vigilance, compassion, and protection.

"I was in and was held as a slave, made to work excessively without rest. The house where I worked had about 16 rooms. I was a cleaner every day. They didn't want to see me sitting down. I was insulted and beaten, they would say, 'You came to work, I bought you for about $2000, so you are a slave.' Those words hurt me every day.

Every weekend, I worked for their child who had a larger house than the mother I worked for. l had to herd goats and sheep, water the flowers and trees, and take care of the garden – all the chores. As for food, I would eat what they left over after they were full.

I got sick to the point they took me to the hospital and was told I needed time to rest, but there was no rest. Work was waiting for me when I returned. I would wake up late and they would throw stones at my door, making a noise that would startle me awake, my heart pounding.

Their children went to school, and I washed their clothes. If the clothes weren't perfect, they would say, 'You haven't bathed, you stink, go bath, even though I had just bathed. I lived through 7 painful months until I escaped. I had heard that people who were being taken could escape, so I ran. I was then repatriated by the Government of Zimbabwe.

I also want to thank the Centre for Combating Human Trafficking at Bindura University of Science Education Official. They took me in and taught me a project to make bags, necklaces, bracelets, etc. Through learning, I am now able to teach others, and I am grateful." ~
