For the past couple of years, some incredible friends of Ethandweni Children’s Home have kindly supported us in purchasing reading glasses. Thanks to this ongoing generosity, we have been able to extend that support to our community elders by donating these glasses directly to them. There is an immense amount of joy in witnessing the exact moment an elder can read a book clearly once again. It is a simple gift, but one that restores independence, connection, and a true sense of pride to the older generation within our Matobo District community. We are deeply grateful to the wonderful friends who make this initiative possible, helping us spread light and care far beyond the walls of our sanctuary.

Waking up to the spectacular view over the Matobo District is a daily reminder of how fortunate we are at Ethandweni Children’s Home. Nestled amongst the iconic rock formations, our sanctuary is treated to some of the most beautiful views Zimbabwe has to offer. This serene and grounding landscape provides the perfect backdrop for our children to heal, grow, and thrive. It brings a sense of peace and stability to the home every single morning, inspiring our Mamas, staff, and children as we begin our daily routines in the gardens and classrooms.

We extend our sincere gratitude to LNA Stationers for stepping up to serve as a Bulawayo donation drop-off point for Ethandweni Children’s Home. With our home located in the heart of the Matobo District, having a reliable location in town for our community to drop off donations is incredibly helpful. The team at LNA Stationers have opened their doors to assist us with collections, playing a vital role in keeping our sanctuary running smoothly so our management and Mamas can continue their dedicated care. If you have items to donate, please feel free to leave them with the team at LNA Stationers.

A massive thank you to the team at Bounce City Bulawayo for becoming an official donation drop-off point for Ethandweni Children’s Home. Operating our sanctuary out in the Matobo District means town logistics are always a bit of a puzzle. Having a central space in Bulawayo where supporters can easily hand over supplies makes a world of difference. Please consider popping into Bounce City with any items you wish to pass on to the home.

Reading through the pages of our visitors’ book is a moving experience for all of us at Ethandweni Children’s Home. We have included a few of these pages to share the kind and encouraging messages left by guests who have spent time with us over the past few months. Seeing the positive impact our home has on those who visit is a wonderful reminder of the solace and love provided to the children in our care. For orphaned and vulnerable children, knowing they are part of a community that is seen and supported by the wider world provides an extra layer of stability as they heal and thrive.

The gardens at our sanctuary in the Matobo District are currently flourishing with the results of our latest agricultural endeavour. We have worked incredibly hard to cultivate our own melons, a refreshing addition to our homegrown produce that represents our ongoing commitment to self-sufficiency. We are delighted to see our hard work in the garden bear fruit, providing a sweet and healthy treat for the children to enjoy.

Managing a harvest as bountiful as ours requires both hard work and the right tools. We are pleased to share a new development at our sanctuary: our maize drying cage is now in use. Over the coming months, this structure will be essential as we dry and preserve our incredible maize harvest. We are incredibly excited to see the fruits of our labour coming in, and we look forward to the security this harvest brings to our home for the months ahead.

At Ethandweni Children’s Home, we believe that no child should ever have to go to bed hungry. While our gardens provide a vital foundation, we rely on your financial generosity to ensure our kitchen remains stocked and every child is well-fed. Your support gives these children a better shot at life, allowing them to focus on their growth and education rather than where their next meal will come from. Please help us ensure that every plate is full and every child feels secure by donating. Email us on [email protected]
