Fighting Drug and Substance Abuse is fighting HIV.

On 21 July 2026, through the National AIDS Council of Zimbabwe-funded Brotha2Brotha programme, TYDF launched a multi-sectoral Drug and Substance Abuse campaign in Ward 2, Bvukururu.

Working with Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Development and Vocational Training, Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education,Zimbabwe Republic Police - ZRP, Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services, Ministry of Local Government and Public Works, Ministry of Women Affairs, councillors, traditional and religious leaders, and young people, we are addressing the links between substance abuse, risky sexual behaviour, STIs and HIV. The campaign also provided on-site services, including HIV testing and cancer screening.

This collective action advances Zimbabwe’s National Development Strategy 2 priorities on public health, youth wellbeing, social protection and community resilience.

From 24–25 June 2026, we proudly joined the National AIDS Council Social Contracting Review Meeting at Kadoma Hotel and Conference Centre.

As one of the CBOs supported by the National AIDS Council of Zimbabwe to implement the Brotha2Brotha (B2B) Programme in Zaka District, we were excited to share our January–June 2026 milestones, including recruiting 500 boys into B2B clubs and empowering them with knowledge and access to integrated SRHR, HIV, and GBV services.

The meeting was also a powerful space for learning, reflection and collaboration as partners shared experiences and strengthened community-led responses.

We are delighted to have received a 2-day Capacity Strengthening Training from the National AIDS Council of Zimbabwe (NAC) under the Brotha2Brotha (B2B) Programme, held at Hippo Creek Lodge, Masvingo, from 22–23 June 2026.

The training strengthened TYDF’s Monitoring & Evaluation, Project Management, Governance, and Financial Management systems, enhancing our institutional capacity, accountability, and effectiveness. It also deepened our understanding of the Zimbabwe National AIDS Strategic Plan V, positioning us to contribute more effectively to Zimbabwe’s HIV response through evidence-driven and results-oriented programming.

We appreciate NAC’s investment in strengthening local organizations to deliver sustainable, high-quality HIV interventions for young people and communities.

We engaged boys and girls at Rudhanda High School in Zaka District on the growing threat of drug and substance abuse. Through open dialogue, learners were empowered to understand the risks, make informed choices, and become champions for a drug-free generation.

The fight against substance abuse starts with informed and empowered young people.

Last week, TYDF joined the Provincial World AIDS Day commemorations in Zaka District, supported by the National AIDS Council of Zimbabwe. During the candle-lighting ceremony and World AIDS Day events, we showcased the impact of our Brotha2Brotha (B2B) programme, where adolescent boys and young men are empowered with SRHR, HIV and GBV knowledge while being nurtured into responsible men who champion gender equality and reject violence.

Our B2B mentees proudly exhibited enterprises they have established through the programme, demonstrating that empowered young men can lead positive change and build brighter futures.

We were honoured to host delegates representing the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution and the Ministry of Health and Child Care, who engaged with our mentees and witnessed firsthand the transformative power of investing in young people.

This is what meaningful youth empowerment looks like: informed, productive, and responsible young men leading the fight against HIV and Gender-Based Violence.

Our B2B Refresher Training at Nyuni Lodges is in full swing. Yesterday, we took a deep dive into the issues affecting our youth and the systems that track our progress.
Key Highlights:
• Safety & Prevention: Constable Matimbe from Zimbabwe Republic Police - ZRP joined us to tackle the rising challenge of drug and substance abuse, equipping our team with awareness tools to protect the next generation.
• Data Excellence: A huge thanks to the representatives from National AIDS Council of Zimbabwe for their support with DHIS2 training. Better data means better delivery for the communities we serve!

Day one of the Brotha2Brotha Refresher Training was successfully held yesterday at Nyuni Lodges in Masvingo.
The highlight of the day was an insightful presentation by Mr. Majembwa from the Ministry of Health and Child Care , who spoke on HIV & AIDS, STIs, NCDs, and communicable diseases. His session equipped B2B mentors with valuable knowledge to strengthen their work in supporting communities.

Yesterday, we had the honor of hosting the National AIDS Council of Zimbabwe Board for a field visit that showcased the impact of the Brotha2Brotha (B2B) program in advancing HIV prevention among adolescent boys and young men (ABYM) in Zaka District – a group historically under-prioritized in the HIV response. The Board engaged directly with young men now accessing HIV services while also benefiting from integrated economic empowerment, including vocational training and enterprise development. They interacted with boys involved in detergent production, baking, and creative (performing arts) entrepreneurship, as well as those pursuing vocational trades at Mushagashe Vocational Training Centre and currently on industrial attachment through National AIDS Council of Zimbabwe support. These pathways are strengthening agency, reducing vulnerability, and enabling young men to lead safer, more productive lives. We appreciate NAC’s social contracting model, which is enabling a more holistic and impactful HIV response for boys and young men.
