🌍 Today, 20.6 million people are diagnosed with cancer each year, and close to 10 million die. Without urgent action, annual cases could reach nearly 35 million by 2050.

HOSPAZ Membership Coordination Meeting – Masvingo
Today, 18 June, Edith Care and Therapy (ECT) attended the HOSPAZ Membership Coordination Meeting for Masvingo members. The meeting gave a platform for organisations to share their experiences, including successes and challenges, ongoing projects, and plans for the future in line with providing palliative care services in Masvingo.
The meeting also focused on how HOSPAZ members can work together to strengthen and enhance the services we provide in Masvingo. We had the opportunity to engage with fellow members, including the DMO and Island Hospice.
It was a fruitful meeting, filled with learning, collaboration, and a shared commitment in improving the lives of patients living with chronic illnesses and supporting their families.

πŸ’™ March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month

Colorectal cancer affects the colon or re**um and is the 3rd most common cancer worldwide, responsible for about 10% of all cancer cases. It is also the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths globally.

πŸ“ˆ The risk increases after age 50, but cases are rising among younger adults in some countries. Early stages often have few or no symptoms, which makes awareness and screening important.

*Possible warning signs include:*

🩸 blood in the stool
πŸ₯² persistent abdominal pain or bloating
πŸ“‰ unexplained weight loss
πŸ₯± fatigue
πŸ’© changes in bowel habits

*The good news? Many cases can be prevented or detected early.*

πŸ₯¦ Eat more fruits and vegetables
πŸƒ Stay physically active
🚭 Avoid to***co
βš–οΈ Maintain a healthy weight
🍷 Limit alcohol

If symptoms appear, talk to a health professional early. Detecting colorectal cancer early greatly improves survival.

Cancer support groups play a vital role in fostering hope and resilience among newly diagnosed patients. Testimonials from cancer survivors are instrumental in dispelling misconceptions and addressing misinformation, helping to empower individuals to seek timely medical intervention.

Delays in seeking cancer treatment often stem from various factors, including religious beliefs, traditional beliefs, and difficulties in accepting the diagnosis. By addressing these barriers and providing psychosocial support, we can encourage earlier detection and treatment.

Through initiatives like cancer support groups and survivor testimonials, we aim to promote a culture of understanding, support, and proactive healthcare engagement. Together, we can make a difference in the fight against cancer.
