On Sunday 8 February 2026, the Restore Eden Initiative had the privilege of preparing and facilitating structured games at the The Rotary Club Of Marondera Interact Clubs Fun Day, under the guidance of Rotarian Theresa Covini (New Generation Portfolio Chairperson RCM & RYLA Zim Chair).

What may have looked like “just games” was intentional youth engagement — promoting teamwork, leadership, coordination, and active participation.

We are grateful for the trust placed in REI and encouraged by the warm feedback received.

Yesterday, the Restore Eden Initiative actively participated in the Waste Characterisation Survey, collecting critical data that will inform improved waste management systems in Marondera.

This work is part of a broader collaborative effort led by the Municipality of Marondera, bringing together institutions and community actors to strengthen evidence-based environmental decision-making.

Thank you to the residents of Dombotombo for your cooperation and support.

We are grateful to the Peterhouse Group of Schools, and especially the Snell House pupils, for standing with us in environmental stewardship during their Community Connect Day.
The wetlands clean-up is a powerful example of youth leadership, service, and care for our shared environment.

Meaningful climate action begins with community.

🌎 Humanity is united by the global hydrological cycle, rain, rivers, groundwater, glaciers, forests and atmospheric moisture. This cycle is central to our lives.

💧 We must take an urgent economy-wide approach across the entire water cycle that involve all sectors and voices. Crucially, we must catalyze investments in water, particularly for solutions that lean on nature.

WETLAND CLEAN-UP SUCCESS!

On Tuesday, 2 December 2025, the Restore Eden Initiative , in partnership with The Rotary Club Of Marondera and Peterhouse Group of Schools, Zimbabwe , successfully carried out a wetland clean-up campaign at Marirangwe Dam and Arthurstone from 0830hrs – 1230hrs.

Marondera’s wetlands are deteriorating, largely due to pollution and poor environmental practices. We collaborated in this campaign to make a difference and to raise awareness.

We were honoured by the presence of the Rector of Peterhouse, who visited our assembly point in the morning before heading to other commitments. His appearance and support is sincerely appreciated.

We had a strong and energetic team:
- 55 boys + 7 members of staff from Peterhouse
- 6 REI volunteers
- 3 members from Rotary Club of Marondera
Later joined by 3 community members from Arthurstone, a father and his two sons, which we felt was an encouraging indication of communutyimpact

That made a total of 74 participants and the biggest clean-up, the REI has ever hosted since it started

Together, we removed an estimated 4–5 tonnes of waste, including plastics, diapers, and broken bottles, from the wetland and surrounding rock outcrops. This waste poses a danger to wildlife, bird life, water systems, and human health. Its removal is a meaningful step toward restoring the integrity of this precious ecosystem.

We deeply appreciate everyone who came through and worked hard. Your energy, teamwork, and commitment made this day a success.

Small actions, when done together, make big impact.

Environmental Fact on Monday

Did you know? Zimbabwe has recently joined the African Circular Economy Alliance (ACEA), an exciting milestone that signals our commitment to reducing waste and building a circular, resource-efficient economy! The attached poster explains why moving from a linear economy (take-make-waste) to a circular model (reduce, reuse, repair, recycle) is essential for saving our environment and supporting sustainable growth.

Let’s unite for a culture shift towards circularity! Be part of a greener, cleaner, and more resilient Zimbabwe. Go circular, say no to waste, and !

Yesterday, our team from Marondera collaborated with other communities at the Lake Chivero Clean-up exercise, which included organizations such as Green Vision Trust, Girl Guides Association of Zimbabwe , African Youth Initiative on Climate Change Zimbabwe , Zimparks, and others.
The shorelines were littered with substantial amounts of waste, including nets, plastic, diapers, textiles, and other forms of pollution.
As Lake Chivero's environmental issues are also our concern, given that some of the fish consumed in Marondera originate from the lake, our participation was crucial. Approximately 60 young individuals participated, filling around 245 bags. Although this effort was notable, it was insufficient, and more needs to be done through a united effort.
The Restore Eden Initiative reaffirms its commitment to supporting all activities aimed at preserving and restoring our environment.
