Day 2 | Zimbabwe Learning Forum: Engaging the UN & Strengthening the UPR Process

We engaged the United Nations human rights system and the Universal Periodic Review process under the United Nations Human Rights Council.
This is where strategic advocacy meets accountability.
Our leaders are strengthening their capacity to influence reporting cycles, submit evidence-based shadow reports, and engage international mechanisms with clarity and confidence. The real work, however, lies beyond Geneva — ensuring that recommendations are tracked, implemented, and translated into measurable national reform for persons with albinism.
Global commitments must result in local change.

Day 1 | Zimbabwe Learning Forum: Advancing Accountability within the African Union Human Rights System

The work of transforming systems begins with understanding them. Yesterday, we engaged deeply with the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights and unpacked the practical implications of the African Disability Protocol for Zimbabwe.
This is not just about learning — it is about action. By strengthening technical expertise to navigate AU reporting and accountability mechanisms, we are equipping ourselves to demand implementation, influence law and policy reform, and ensure that disability rights commitments translate into lived realities.
We were honoured to engage representatives from the Office of the President and Cabinet; the Ministries of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare; Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs; and Foreign Affairs; alongside the Federation of Disabled People in Zimbabwe. We also welcomed the Senator representing Persons with Disabilities, Honourable Senator Shiri.
True reform requires collaboration, transparency, and sustained advocacy. We are ready to engage and ready to hold systems accountable.

It is an honour to host the Africa Albinism Network team as we continue strengthening collaboration to advance meaningful inclusion of persons with albinism in Zimbabwe and across the region. Together we remain committed to amplifying voices, promoting rights and driving sustainable change.

Our Public Relations Officer had a distinct privilege of presenting the "Before Our Home Goes Down" project, an initiative by the Alive Albinism Initiative, at the Culture Fund offices, engaging with delegates from the EU Delegation to Zimbabwe and CreativeAction2 participants. This disability-inclusive visual arts exhibition amplifies the voices and creativity of persons with albinism, addressing misconceptions and stigma through art.

The project showcases the challenges faced by individuals with albinism, including discrimination and societal exclusion, while highlighting their resilience. Supported by grants from the Culture Fund of Zimbabwe and the European Union Delegation to Zimbabwe, "Before Our Home Goes Down" fosters dialogue on inclusivity and advocates for the rights and well-being of people with albinism, emphasizing the need for continued support and awareness initiatives

Yesterday, we proudly launched our first 'Before Our Home Goes Down' Visual Art Exhibition, celebrating the talents of persons with disabilities and promoting inclusivity, accessibility, and empowerment. The opening ceremony was honored by the presence of Deputy Minister of Sport, Arts, Recreation, and Culture, Hon. Emily Jesaya. We're grateful for her support on this vibrant journey of self-expression, challenging perceptions, and fostering a deeper understanding of disability.

Our heartfelt thanks go to the Culture Fund for their crucial support in making this event a success and Moto Republik for hosting us at their hub. We also appreciate the presence and participation of esteemed guests, including:
