ZWLA partnered with the Ministry of Women’s Affairs ,community , small and medium enterprises through support from @ UNwomen and Irish Aid to convene a combined Capacity-Building and Steering Committee Meeting on Zimbabwe’s National Action Plan on United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security .

Strengthening prevention and response to womens peace and security is key in driving implementation of the law. We celebrate the development of the national action plan on 1325 developed by the Ministry.

ZWLA is currently attending Day 2 of the zimbabwe Northern Region Winter School, where ZWLA is participating as an exhibitor and providing legal services to citizens.

The Winter School is focusing on disability inclusion and rights, with discussions around access to justice, protection from GBV, the rights of women and girls with disabilities, youth participation, and access to assistive technology.

Our presence is focusing on exhibiting ZWLA’s work ,offering legal services and information . We shared simplified IEC materials on different laws as a way of strengthening legal literacy.

ZWLA participated in the under the theme “ age as a determinant for sexual and reproductive rights “. An array of speakers across the African continent shared on courts cases and experiences in pushing for protection of SRH rights in domestic courts , African Commission and at the African Court.Key take aways :
*with laws in place (national and normative frameworks ) the question is not do rights exist on paper BUT rather can women and girls access them
*age based discrimination does not end with adolescents, even older women face the same
* age should guide governments to provide protection measures as opposed to limiting them because the right to dignity has no age limit
*it is imperative for lawyers , advocates and practitioners to guard against regressive normative frameworks that are being pushed by anti rights movements
* The Maputo Protocol on the Rights of Women in Africa has LONG protected sexual and reproductive rights , created by African governments for African women and girls: there is need to defend it as we push for implementation at national level

What an overwhelming and inspiring success. The house was completely full, bringing together passionate GBV actors and key government institutions for an unforgettable two days of collaboration, strategy, and shared commitment.

From diving deep into the four pillars of the National Action Plan (Participation, Prevention, Protection, and Relief & Recovery) to powerful group presentations, this workshop has set a strong foundation for moving forward together. The energy in the room is electric as our workshop groups take the stage to share their powerful strategies and insights. Throughout this intensive 2-day workshop, GBV actors and government institutions have worked hand-in-hand to tackle the four pillars of the National Action Plan: Participation, Prevention, Protection, and Relief & Recovery.

Now, we are putting plans into action as groups present their roadmaps for a stronger, unified response against Gender-Based Violence. Every presentation brings us one step closer to real, sustainable change!
