We spent the day at an Access to Justice Indaba where we shared about the barriers that women and girls face trying to navigate the justice system to enforce their rights . Challenges including : the high costs involved , limited court infrastructure and support services, psychiatric services limited to Harare and Bulawayo , age estimation services difficult to access cases involving children with no birth certificates , gender stereotypes , limited access to legal aid at district level , lack of sustainable ring fenced funding to support services centres ( help desks at courts , shelters , one stop centres, GBV walk in centres) , laws that are not working , evidentiary challenges .

We welcome the commitments made by government at CSW 70 to address some of these barriers to access to justice and we look forward to implementation of the same in the year .

One of our priority areas is tackling violence against women and girls . Through ICSP supported program our ZWLA Masvingo office was in Bikita Ward 32,in collaboration with UDACIZA .We held a fruitful engagement with women and girls from diverse church backgrounds. The session focused on discussing violations that women and girls commonly face within their community. This safe space enabled participants to openly share their lived realities and propose possible solutions to the challenges they encounter. Key issues highlighted included the impregnation of young girls by married men, as well as drug and substance abuse contributing to cases of r**e, assault, and robbery. Additional violations raised included domestic violence, with particular emphasis on financial abuse.

Celebrating in Chivi , through support from Trocaire , ZWLA held a capacity‑strengthening session with the disability advocacy group, focusing on equipping women advocacy teams with practical knowledge on women’s constitutional rights. When women especially those with disabilities understand their constitutional rights, they become unstoppable advocates for justice. These women didn’t just listen, they identified real issues affecting their communities and mapped out how to engage duty bearers to demand accountability. From knowledge to practice these advocates are now better equipped to defend their rights and those of their communities.
