SOLIDARITY STATEMENT WITH THE PEOPLE AND GOVERNMENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF CUBA

Issued by the Zimbabwe Anti-Sanctions Trust

8 May 2026

The Zimbabwe Anti-Sanctions Trust expresses its unwavering solidarity with the people and Government of Cuba following the latest escalation of unilateral coercive measures announced by the Government of the United States on 1 May and 7 May 2026.

We strongly condemn the intensification of the economic, financial and commercial blockade against Cuba-actions that continue to inflict unnecessary suffering upon innocent civilians, undermine national development, and violate the fundamental principles of sovereign equality, non-interference, and peaceful coexistence among nations.

As a people who have endured the painful consequences of illegal sanctions, the people of Zimbabwe fully understand the devastating humanitarian, economic, and social impact of externally imposed coercive measures. We therefore stand shoulder to shoulder with Cuba in its legitimate struggle for economic justice, sovereignty, dignity, and self-determination.

The Zimbabwe Anti-Sanctions Trust rejects the weaponisation of economic power as an instrument of political coercion. Such actions are contrary to the spirit of the Charter, international law, and the collective aspirations of humanity for peace, development, and mutual respect.

We call upon the international community, progressive movements, civil society organisations, and all defenders of justice across the world to speak with one voice against the continued blockade of Cuba and against all forms of unilateral sanctions that seek to punish sovereign nations for choosing their own developmental path.

Today, we reaffirm an enduring truth:
An injury to one free people is an injury to all humanity.
Zimbabwe stands with Cuba.
Africa stands with Cuba.
Justice stands with Cuba.

STATEMENT OF SOLIDARITY BY THE ZIMBABWE ANTI-SANCTIONS TRUST (ZAST)
ON THE ESCALATION OF THE UNITED STATES ECONOMIC BLOCKADE AGAINST CUBA
The Zimbabwe Anti-Sanctions Trust (ZAST) expresses its unwavering solidarity with the Government and people of Cuba following the latest escalation of the United States’ illegal, immoral, and inhumane economic blockade, particularly the attempt to impose a total blockade on fuel supplies to the island.
ZAST strongly condemns the executive order issued by the President of the United States on 29 January 2026, which falsely declares a so-called “national emergency” and seeks to intimidate and punish sovereign states for engaging in lawful trade with Cuba. This unilateral action represents a dangerous intensification of economic warfare and an open attempt to coerce third countries through threats, blackmail, and extraterritorial sanctions.
The justification advanced by the United States government—branding Cuba as an “unusual and extraordinary threat” to U.S. national security—is patently false, irrational, and offensive to the intelligence of the international community. Such fabrications are not only devoid of credibility but reveal a persistent contempt for truth, international law, and ethical governance in the pursuit of imperial domination.
ZAST notes with deep concern that this executive order constitutes a flagrant violation of international law, including the principles of sovereign equality, non-interference in the internal affairs of states, and the right of nations to freely choose their economic and political systems. It also undermines the Proclamation of Latin America and the Caribbean as a Zone of Peace, and further exposes the United States as a primary source of instability, coercion, and aggression in the Global South.
For more than six decades, the United States has failed to subjugate or dismantle the Cuban Revolution through economic strangulation, political isolation, and relentless propaganda. Despite these hostile measures, Cuba has remained a beacon of sovereignty, social justice, international solidarity, and peaceful cooperation—providing medical assistance, education, and humanitarian support to countries across the world, including Africa.
As a people who have themselves endured the destructive impact of illegal unilateral sanctions, Zimbabweans fully understand the human cost of economic warfare. We therefore reject, without reservation, the use of sanctions as a tool of collective punishment designed to inflict suffering on innocent populations in order to achieve political ends.
ZAST affirms that Cuba poses no threat to any nation. On the contrary, it has consistently demonstrated its commitment to peace, dialogue, mutual respect, and international cooperation. The resilience and courage of the Cuban people stand as a powerful reminder that no amount of economic pressure can break the will of a people determined to defend their sovereignty and dignity.
We call upon the international community, progressive movements, civil society organizations, and all peace-loving nations to reject this escalation, demand the immediate and unconditional lifting of the U.S. blockade against Cuba, and oppose all forms of unilateral coercive measures wherever they are imposed.
History has shown that imperial aggression ultimately fails, while solidarity, justice, and self-determination prevail.
Cuba is not alone. Zimbabwe stands with Cuba.
An injury to one is an injury to all.
Homeland or Death – We Shall Overcome.

STATEMENT BY THE ZIMBABWE ANTI-SANCTIONS TRUST (ZAST)
ON THE UNITED STATES’ AGGRESSION AGAINST THE BOLIVARIAN REPUBLIC OF VENEZUELA
The Zimbabwe Anti-Sanctions Trust (ZAST) notes with grave concern the criminal and unprovoked attack by the United States of America against the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela. This act of aggression constitutes a blatant violation of international law, the Charter of the United Nations, and the fundamental principles of sovereignty, territorial integrity, and non-interference in the internal affairs of states.
ZAST fully associates itself with the urgent call by His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Cuba, for an immediate and decisive reaction from the international community. The continued resort to unilateral military force and coercive measures by the United States represents a dangerous escalation of imperialist conduct that threatens global peace, regional stability in Latin America, and the collective security framework painstakingly built since the end of the Second World War.
The attack on Venezuela must be understood within a broader pattern of illegal sanctions, regime-change operations, and economic warfare imposed on sovereign nations that choose independent development paths outside Western hegemony. These actions are not only morally indefensible but also constitute crimes against humanity, as they deliberately inflict suffering on civilian populations under the false pretext of “democracy” and “human rights”.
ZAST therefore calls upon the United Nations, the Non-Aligned Movement, the African Union, BRICS, progressive governments, and all peace-loving peoples of the world to:
Unequivocally condemn the United States’ aggression against Venezuela;
Demand the immediate cessation of all military actions and hostile measures;
Reject unilateral sanctions and coercive instruments that violate international law; and
Reaffirm the right of the Venezuelan people to self-determination, peace, and sovereign control over their natural resources.
Zimbabwe, itself a long-standing victim of illegal Western sanctions, stands in unwavering solidarity with the people and government of Venezuela, as well as with Cuba and all nations resisting neo-colonial domination. An injury to one sovereign nation is an injury to all.
History has consistently shown that imperial aggression ultimately fails, while the collective resistance of oppressed peoples endures. ZAST reiterates that the solution to global challenges lies not in militarism and coercion, but in dialogue, mutual respect, and genuine multilateralism.

STATEMENT BY THE ZIMBABWE ANTI-SANCTIONS TRUST ON THE ONE CHINA PEINCIPLE AND ZIMBABWE-CHINA RELATIONS

The Zimbabwe Anti-Sanctions Trust (ZAST) affirms its support for the One-China Principle, which has long shaped Zimbabwe’s engagement with the People’s Republic of China. The Trust recognises the widely accepted position that there is one China, that Taiwan is an inseparable part of Chinese territory, and that the Government of the People’s Republic of China represents China as a whole.
As a civic society organisation committed to peace, sovereignty and opposition to unilateral sanctions, ZAST rejects separatist actions and external interference that escalate tensions under the banner of “Taiwan independence.” Such developments risk undermining international stability and peaceful co-existence.
ZAST does not support official engagement with Taiwan and aligns itself with international efforts that uphold territorial integrity and non-interference in internal affairs. This position is informed by the strong historical relationship between Zimbabwe and China, built on mutual respect, solidarity and shared development aspirations.
China has played an important role in supporting Zimbabwe during periods of economic pressure arising from illegal sanctions. Through investment, trade, infrastructure development and diplomatic engagement, China has contributed to cushioning Zimbabwe from the worst effects of isolation and has expanded space for national development.
ZAST underscores the importance of Zimbabwe–China relations and supports cooperation that advances justice, equality and a balanced multipolar global order.
