At Zvandiri, 100% of babies born in our programme are born free from HIV - a testament to the incredible work of our Young Mentor Mothers. Last week, together with UNICEF Zimbabwe ,National AIDS Council of Zimbabwe and the Ministry of Health and Child Care , we conducted Site Support and Supervision Visits to the YMMs across Mashonaland central Province from Karanda Mission Hospital to Chakonda clinic.

We witnessed first-hand how Young Mentor Mothers are supporting young mothers, their babies and partners by promoting HIV testing, HIV prevention, linkage to Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) including the new injectable Lenacapavir as well as screening for mental health, Gender Based Violence and Intimate Partner Violence.

They also provide information, peer counselling, psychosocial support, and facilitate referrals for further healthcare and social needs.

𝗔 𝗺𝗮𝗷𝗼𝗿 𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗛𝗜𝗩 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝗭𝗶𝗺𝗯𝗮𝗯𝘄𝗲!

The Ministry of Health and Child Care has launched 𝗟𝗲𝗻𝗮𝗰𝗮𝗽𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗿, a twice-yearly HIV prevention injection with the potential to reduce new HIV infections and improve adherence.

An excited Zvandiri team joined the national launch and spoke to many about the steps we continue to take, to ensure young people have access to information, combination HIV prevention services and the opportunity to not only survive but 𝗧𝗛𝗥𝗜𝗩𝗘!

𝗛𝗮𝗽𝗽𝘆 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗼𝗺 𝗗𝗮𝘆!

At Zvandiri, we work with Governments and communities to close the tap on new HIV acquisitions. We train and mentor peer providers to share accurate information, provide psychosocial support, and create safe, stigma‑free spaces where young people can ask questions, learn about HIV prevention and condom use, and access sexual and mental health services.

𝗭𝘃𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗿𝗶 𝗣𝗲𝗲𝗿 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝗻 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗔𝗜𝗗𝗦 𝗦𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗲𝘁𝘆 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗽 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘁.

We are proud to share that one of our Peer Providers, Purity Mufarowashe Nyatondo, was awarded a prestigious workshop grant by the IAS - International AIDS Society. The grant supported a youth-driven convening under the IAS Youth Hub, titled : Integration of Mental Health into HIV Care, positioning young people at the forefront of shaping more holistic and responsive HIV services in Zimbabwe.

We are excited to continue this journey with all young mothers to accelerate HIV prevention, promote mental health, and strengthen sexual and reproductive health among pregnant and breastfeeding adolescents and young women.

In May 2025, a new chapter began in Zimbabwe’s response to HIV among adolescent girls and young women.

🚨𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗣𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻!

𝗖𝗹𝗼𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗴𝗮𝗽: 𝗘𝗻𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗿𝗲𝗻 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝗛𝗜𝗩 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝘂𝘀.
Children told early about their HIV status are more likely to take medication and stay healthy. This leads to better treatment outcomes and mental well-being. We have been doing it, but we need to invest more to ensure that all young people living with HIV survive and thrive!
