🟢 Children do not inherit the planet, but adults borrow it from them. That’s why it must be preserved.

On this , celebrated under the global theme "Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future," the urgency to protect our shared home has never been clearer. The climate crisis is a child rights crisis, and the signals the Earth is sending require immediate, bold action.

At Save the Children, we believe that the best solutions are those driven by the generation that will inherit the future. Through our newly launched US$30 million Adolescents and Youth for a Sustainable Future project—supported by the Green Climate Fund —we are giving young people the platforms, resources, and policy access they need to spearhead climate resilience in their communities.

We remain committed to youth-led climate action and will continue working with young people and the Government of Zimbabwe to champion this cause.

Clean water and safe sanitation aren’t privileges—they are fundamental child rights.

As we count down to 2026 , we are spotlighting this year’s vital continental theme: Ensuring universal access to water, sanitation, and hygiene for every child in Africa. 🌍

We will be sharing inspiring stories of how we are partnering with the Government of Zimbabwe, local partners, communities, and children to build sustainable, climate-resilient WASH services.

Follow along to see how community-led action is changing lives!

📢Big news for child safety in !

Cabinet has approved the National Child Online Protection Policy.

The digital world offers endless opportunities, but we must protect our children from online risks. Save the Children is proud to have walked this journey as part of the Zimbabwe Child Online Protection Committee, ensuring children's voices were at the center of the policy.

Now, the real work begins! We need all sectors—government, private tech, and communities—to invest in implementing these 9 strategic focus areas.

Parents, leaders, and tech partners: How will you help create a safer digital footprint for our children? Let us know in the comments!

Currently underway in Kadoma🇿🇼 is an Action training aimed at shifting the paradigm from disaster response to proactive risk management by strengthening anticipatory action systems across Zimbabwe.

This capacity-strengthening initiative is part of the ECHO🇪🇺-ARISE project, implemented by Save the Children, Bantwana Zimbabwe, Simukai Child Protection Programme, and the Government of Zimbabwe. Rather than just reacting to climate shocks after they happen, the goal is to equip institutions with the frameworks, data systems, and coordination protocols needed to trigger early actions before a crisis hits—ultimately protecting vulnerable communities ahead of time.

To ensure a truly institutionalised, multi-sectoral approach, the workshop has brought together UN agencies, civil society partners, and key stakeholders primarily from the project’s target districts of Chipinge and Mangwe.

Key Government partners shaping this system include:
• Ministry of Local Government and Public Works thorough District Development Coordinators.
• Disaster & Social Services: National and District-level Department of Civil Protection and Ministry of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare's Department of Social Development.

• Ministry of Primary & Secondary Education, Zimbabwe , Meteorological Services Department of Zimbabwe , and Ministry of Agriculture, Mechanisation and Water Resources Development Zim (WASH department).

• Knowledge Partners: Academic experts from Bindura University of Science Education.

By bridging the gap between early warning signs and early institutional action, we are helping build a more resilient, forward-looking disaster management system for Zimbabwe.

Listen to Sibongile Damasane, Education Partnerships and Programmes Lead, discuss the importance of our foundational learning campaign. We are making sure everyone is part of the journey to transform how our children learn, read, and grow.

Through the Global Partnership for Education-funded Systems Transformation Grant, we are working together with the Ministry of Primary of Primary and Ministry of Primary & Secondary Education, Zimbabwe and UNICEF Zimbabwe to make foundational learning a community priority. When we align our efforts—from the national level to the heart of the village—we create a world where every child can succeed.

Today, we had a front-row experience to the magic of learning in Rushinga 🇿🇼.

When passion meets creativity, the classroom transforms. We watched as Ms. Ndoro turned a standard Grade 1 English lesson into an interactive concert!

Through the Global Partnership for Education -funded Systems Transformation Grant, we are working alongside the Ministry of Primary & Secondary Education, Zimbabwe and UNICEF Zimbabwe to strengthen in Zimbabwe as it is the bedrock of a child’s education journey. When children have fun, they stay engaged; when they stay engaged, they succeed.

Our awareness road campaign on foundational learning continues in Rushinga🇿🇼! Today, our Education Programmes and Partnerships Lead, Sibongile Damasane, showed parents and caregivers that teaching doesn't always require a classroom.

By playing indigenous games like nhodo, pada, and tsoro, children develop:

✅️Numeracy skills through counting and strategy.
✅️Critical thinking by anticipating moves.
✅️Motor coordination and social bonding.

Learning is as easy as 1, 2, 3 when parents are involved. It’s not just play—it’s the foundation for a brighter future!

Which games did you play when you were young, and how did they help you?
