As part of the Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) Project, funded by FST, Hope for Kids Zimbabwe is strengthening awareness and access to accurate SRHR information through the distribution of educational materials. These materials, carrying messages such as “ Know your body. Know your rights” and Break the Silence , aim to empower young people with knowledge, promote healthy choices, encourage open discussions and raise awareness about their sexual and reproductive health and rights. Through the " Build Strong Bonds ” message we also emphasise the importance of positive parenting, trust, communication and supportive relationships between parents and children. Together, we are working towards informed, empowered and protected young people, while promoting safer and healthier communities.

Thirteen lives lost in just three months is a stark, devastating reality that cannot be brushed aside as isolated domestic incidents; it is a national crisis of gender-based violence and femicide. Let us unite and stand together to end GBV.

As Shamwari Yemwanasikana Organization, Friend of the Girl Child, we are raising an alarm over a growing femicide crisis in Zimbabwe. In just three months, from June to September 2026, we have documented at least thirteen women and children killed in domestic and intimate partner related incidents across Chikanga, Nkulumane, Southlea Park, Shamva, Hatfield, Darwendale, Glen View and even affecting a Zimbabwean family in the diaspora. The victims include a pregnant woman, a serving officer, mothers, and innocent children as young as seven months old.

These are no longer domestic disputes, they are acts of femicide that show how minor disagreements are turning into brutal murders. Our greatest concern now is child protection. The children who have survived these tragedies still want to continue with life, to go to school, to play and to heal, but they are left traumatized after witnessing the killing of their mothers and are now exposed to secondary abuse, neglect and stigma.

We therefore urgently call upon the Zimbabwe Gender Commission to exercise its constitutional mandate and push this crisis to higher offices, including the Office of the President, Parliament and relevant Ministries, so that intimate partner killings are treated as a national emergency. We also call upon the of social welfare
Department of Social Welfare, the Victim Friendly Unit and all child protection actors to ensure immediate psychosocial support and safe long-term care for the children left behind.

Every girl child deserves a home that is safe. We will not continue counting bodies while children suffer twice.

Sustainable Partnerships to Promote Gender Equality

On Thursday 17 September 2026, Fathers Against Abuse (FAA), in partnership with Female Students Network (FSN), conducted a gender dialogue with student teachers at Seke Teachers College.
The dialogue provided a safe and participatory platform for student teachers to co-create practical solutions for challenging harmful gender norms, preventing sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV), and promoting respectful and equal relationships between women and men.

A key message emerging from the dialogue was that gender equality cannot be achieved by women or men working in isolation—it requires meaningful partnership, shared responsibility and collective action.
The student teachers committed to working together to help create learning spaces that are safe, inclusive and free from gender-based violence. They also pledged to carry these lessons into their future classrooms by mainstreaming gender equality, challenging harmful stereotypes and promoting positive, respectful relationships among learners.

As future educators, they have a unique opportunity to influence the next generation. When teachers challenge harmful norms in the classroom, they help build a culture where equality, dignity, respect and non-violence become the norm.
This is the power of sustainable partnerships: learning together, acting together and creating lasting change together.

Hope for Kids Zimbabwe has launched the SHIELD Project in Mutare District Ward 14 to combat child marriage through a holistic, community-driven approach combining SRHR peer education, mobile clinics, positive parenting, and ISALs (mikando) financial trainings. Endorsed and supported by key local leadership—including the District Development Coordinator, Ward Councillor, and Village Heads—the initiative leverages strong stakeholder coordination and local accountability to build a safer, more supportive environment for children and families, and we are proud to work with them on this vital effort.
