As 2025 came to an end, Zimbabwe's global social welfare standing was ranked 153rd out of 193 countries on the United Nations Human Development Index. United Nations agencies evaluated Zimbabwe's welfare environment as one of growing policy intention but highly constrained ex*****on, marked by severe climate shocks and tight fiscal space.
As of 2026, Zimbabwe's debt stands at US$23.4 billion, representing 44.7% of the country's Gross Domestic Product. This debt burden makes it difficult to strengthen social welfare systems and advance progress toward the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
This is why, at Bless The Child Zimbabwe, we are anchored on United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 17, which emphasizes partnerships for achieving the UN Goals. In line with this, we have partnered with the Harare Hindu Association to support our child beneficiaries with blankets this winter and other necessities that Zimbabwe's social welfare system is struggling to provide due to tight fiscal space, constrained ex*****on, and the weight of public debt.
