A trunk does not define an elephant’s spirit… 🐘❤️

When Annabelle arrived in our care in 2015, she was a frightened young calf with most of her trunk and all of her tail missing after a traumatic attack in the wild - maybe by a lion. We initially wondered how she would eat, drink, or one day survive on her own.

But Annabelle had other plans.

Over the years, she has adapted in extraordinary ways, learning to do things differently and proving that resilience is stronger than adversity!

Today, she is a confident matriarch, a devoted mother to Summer, and an inspiration to everyone who knows her story.

This simple moment of Annabelle drinking water is a beautiful reminder that life does not have to be perfect to be extraordinary. Sometimes our greatest challenges become our greatest strength.

Sometimes, nature has a surprise in store… Meet Muffle and Duffle! 💕😎🎁

When these tiny little ones were first handed into our care as orphaned jackals, we welcomed them with open arms. But as they grew, we realised we had made a rather delightful mistake. They were not jackals at all, but Bat-eared Foxes!

With their oversized ears and curious personalities Muffle and Duffle have quickly become firm favourites. They are thriving on a natural diet of mainly insects such as ants and worms, proving that sometimes the smallest creatures have the biggest appetites.

Watching them grow has been a beautiful reminder that every animal has its own story to tell, and sometimes that story takes an unexpected turn.

Kadiki, our mini matriarch in the making is a patient elephant - always up for a bit of rough and tumble with her little herd (until she’s had enough) 😅❤️🐘

Wildebeest have scent glands near their eyes and on their faces, and rubbing or scratching against trees, branches and anything suitably scratchy helps them leave their scent behind and communicate with other wildebeest. It can also simply feel wonderfully satisfying, especially when there is an itch that just has to be scratched!

Noodle, however, seems to believe that every log was placed there exclusively for her personal nose-scratching pleasure. We are yet to convince her otherwise. 🤭

She shoots and she scores! Turns out Kadiki has some ball skills we weren’t aware of 🐘⚽️😍

A mud face mask might work wonders for us, but somehow it couldn’t make an elephant any more beautiful than they already are. 🤎🐘💕

Elephants cover themselves in mud for a very practical reason. It acts like nature’s sunscreen, helping to protect their sensitive skin from the harsh African sun. The mud also cools them down, keeps biting insects at bay, and helps soothe any irritations!
