Last week we had Community Sensitisation Dialogues on Advanced HIV Disease (AHD) and Nutrition, held across AFROCAB Thrive supported districts. These dialogues created an important platform where People Living with HIV (PLHIV), community members, health service providers, and local leaders came together to engage in meaningful conversations about health, nutrition, and access to care.

Through participatory discussions, testimonies, and health education sessions, participants strengthened their understanding of:
✅ Treatment literacy and adherence
✅ The importance of proper nutrition in AHD care
✅ Prevention and management of Advanced HIV Disease (AHD)
✅ Reducing stigma, self-stigma, and discrimination
✅ Promoting demand for AHD-related health services

The dialogues empowered communities with knowledge while encouraging collective action, openness, and stronger community ownership of the AHD response. With support from AfroCAB-HIV we managed to amplify the voices and experiences of people living with HIV in shaping solutions that work for their communities.

We appreciate the commitment shown by all participants and stakeholders who contributed to these impactful conversations National AIDS Council of Zimbabwe of Health and Child care Global Network of People living with HIV (GNP+) Zimbabwe Young Positives Zimbabwe Association of Church Related Hospitals - ZACH Batanai HIV and AIDS Service Organisation UNICEF Zimbabwe UNAIDS

ZNNP+ met with the Honourable Minister of Health and Child care, Dr Mombeshora to discuss concerns following the halted negotiations for the US$367M health funding agreement between Zimbabwe and the United States.

Representing over 1.3 million people living with HIV in Zimbabwe, we raised community fears around potential disruptions to life-saving services including ART access, viral load monitoring, and management of advanced HIV disease.

The Minister assured that Zimbabwe currently has ARV stocks for 6–30 months, with more shipments expected and health-related taxes ring-fenced to support HIV, TB and malaria programmes.

While we note these assurances, a clear, transparent and inclusive plan involving PLHIV and all stakeholders remains essential to sustain progress in the national HIV response.

For People living with HIV, Stigma and discrimination continue to silence voices, deny people dignity, and create barriers to health, opportunity, and justice. These attitudes don’t just hurt individuals; they weaken families, communities, and our collective progress.

As Zero Discrimination Day approaches, on March 1 2026, it is a reminder that everyone deserves respect, inclusion, and equal treatment, regardless of HIV status, gender, disability, background, or circumstance. Ending discrimination starts with us: in our words, our actions, and the spaces we create every day.

Let us join the upcoming PLHIV convening focusing on zero Discrimination Day coordinated by Global Network of People living with HIV (GNP+) . Details on the flier below.

The Zimbabwe National Network of People Living with HIV (ZNNP+) is deeply concerned by the discontinuation of negotiations under the proposed US$350 million U.S. health funding agreement, and the serious implications this decision may have on over 1.3 million people living with HIV in Zimbabwe.

For decades, international partnerships have been the backbone of Zimbabwe’s HIV response supporting life-saving ART, viral load monitoring, advanced HIV care, and community health systems. Any disruption risks treatment interruption, reversal of hard-won gains, and increased vulnerability for the most marginalized communities.

Lenacapavir is a new HIV medicine that is changing the way HIV can be prevented. Unlike traditional daily pills, it can be given as an injection just twice a year.
For people living with HIV, this could mean:
✔️ Fewer pills to remember
✔️ Less treatment fatigue
✔️ More privacy and freedom
✔️ Hope for people with drug-resistant HIV.

This breakthrough reminds us that science is moving forward a nd so is the fight for better, simpler, and more dignified HIV care. Hope is real as we join the Ministry of Health and Child Care and National AIDS Council of Zimbabwe on the launch of the Lenacapavir today in Epworth.
