Celebrating Women in Art: Breaking Barriers and Bridging Gaps

As we celebrate Women's Month, Nhaka Gallery acknowledges the incredible contributions of women artists in Zimbabwe. We've had the privilege of showcasing their work, and we're committed to promoting their voices and stories.

Despite their talent and dedication, women artists in Zimbabwe often face challenges in the art world. The gap between male and female artists is still significant, with women often underrepresented in exhibitions, collections, and critical discourse.

At Nhaka Gallery, we believe that women's art is a powerful tool for social change. It gives voice to the voiceless, challenges societal norms, and inspires communities. We recognize the need to promote more women artists as a voice for other women in our community.

Through their art, women can share their experiences, perspectives, and struggles, creating a ripple effect of empowerment and connection. We're committed to bridging the gap and creating opportunities for women artists to thrive.

Why promote women in art?

- Women's art offers a unique perspective on the world, challenging dominant narratives and stereotypes.
- It provides a platform for women's voices to be heard, validated, and celebrated.
- It inspires and empowers other women and girls to pursue their passions and dreams.

Let's celebrate the women who are breaking barriers and pushing boundaries in the art world. Let's work together to create a more inclusive and equitable art landscape in Zimbabwe.

Honoring a Pioneer: Helen Lieros

This Women's Month, we celebrate the life and legacy of Helen Lieros, a trailblazing artist, gallerist, and cultural icon in Zimbabwe.

As a co-founder of Nhaka Gallery (formerly Delta Gallery), Helen played a pivotal role in shaping the country's art scene. Her passion for promoting Zimbabwean art and artists has inspired generations.

Through her work, Helen challenged boundaries and pushed the limits of what was possible for women in art. Her dedication to empowering others and showcasing local talent has left an indelible mark. By paving the way for many other women artists, Helen's legacy continues to inspire and empower.

We're grateful for her contributions and continue to draw inspiration from her vision and courage. Here's to Helen Lieros – a true pioneer and icon in Zimbabwean art!

Today we celebrate International Women’s Day by honoring the incredible women shaping the visual arts industry.

Women artists, curators, collectors, and cultural workers continue to inspire, challenge perspectives, and enrich our communities through creativity and vision. Their work tells powerful stories, preserves heritage, and opens new spaces for dialogue and expression.

At Women's Gallery, we celebrate the talent, resilience, and innovation of women in the arts today and every day. May we continue to uplift, support, and create opportunities for women artists to thrive and be seen.

Happy International Women’s Day! 💜

GBV doesn’t only happen in physical spaces — it happens online too.
Cyberbullying, harassment, threats, and online humiliation are real forms of violence that deeply affect mental health, safety, and dignity.

During these 16 Days, Women's Gallery shine a light on digital abuse and stand with everyone who has been targeted or silenced online.

• Stop online hate
• Report abusive accounts
• Support survivors of digital harassment
• Use your voice to create safe online spaces

Let’s build an internet where respect is the norm and violence has no place.
