Korfball Workshop a Resounding Success as Morgan Zintec College Hosts Inaugural Tertiary Training Course

MORGAN ZINTEC COLLEGE ( 23/08/2026)– In a monumental step for the development of mixed-gender sport in Zimbabwe, the highly anticipated Korfball Training Workshop concluded on a high note at Morgan Zintec College, marking a historic milestone for the sport's expansion into higher education.
The workshop, which ran over three days, drew an impressive contingent of participants from 12 tertiary institutions across the nation. Delegates from Belvedere Technical Teachers College, Nyadire College of Education, Seke Teachers College, Hillside Teachers College, Harare Polytechnic, Msasa Industrial Training College, Mkoba Teachers College, Madziwa Teachers College, Kushinga Phikelela Polytechnic, Masvingo Polytechnic, Masvingo Teachers' College, and the host institution, Morgan Zintec College, were all in attendance.
This was not merely a routine training exercise; it served as a critical build-up to the upcoming Tertiary Korfball Championships. The workshop provided a platform for tertiary members to acquire and to refine their skills, understand the nuances of the sport, and prepare for competitive action.
Official Opening and Key Dignitaries
The official opening of the workshop was performed by Mr. Jonhasi, the representative of the Tertiary Education Sports Council (TESC). Speaking on behalf of the TESC Secretary General, Mr. Jonhasi urged participants to take the sport of korfball seriously, emphasizing its values of cooperation, equality, and athleticism. He extended heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Zendah for his pivotal role in organizing the workshop, making it accessible for colleges across the country to benefit from high-level coaching.
Top-Tier Instruction from National Experts
The course was conducted by the nation's most qualified and experienced korfball instructors, demonstrating the seriousness with which the Zimbabwe Korfball Federation (ZKF) is approaching institutional development. Leading the instructional team was ZKF President Tarirai Chadebah, who took charge of the theoretical and practical sessions alongside ZKF Director of Safeguarding and Chief Referee Killian Pedzai. Their combined expertise ensured that participants received world-class training, with a strong emphasis on both the technical and tactical aspects of the game.
Adding immense value to the practical sessions, national team players were also present to actively participate alongside the trainees. Their involvement provided participants with a unique opportunity to observe and learn from elite-level athletes, making the hands-on training sessions some of the best ever delivered in a korfball training course. The interaction between the national team players and the tertiary institution delegates created an inspiring learning environment that motivated all in attendance.
Long-Awaited Milestone
The successful ex*****on of the workshop was the result of meticulous planning and coordination. The organizing committee expressed profound appreciation for the collective effort that brought the event to life. Special mention was made of the tireless work of Mrs. Kaseke, Dr. Zendah, Mr. Hungwe, Tendai Matauya, Musazika Kudakwashe, ZKF Secretary General Kashangura, Zingi Krishna, Fifteen Joseleen, Driver Vincent, and the entire Morgan Zintec College administration.
For many, this event was the culmination of a long journey. "It was long overdue. From the initial proposal in 2014 to implementation in 2026, this is truly a milestone achieved," remarked a senior official, reflecting on the decade-long effort to bring structured korfball to the tertiary level.
Closing Remarks and Future Prospects
During the closing remarks, Dr. Zendah, who was also a participant, expressed his appreciation for the attendees and issued a powerful statement of intent: "Korfball has begun within tertiary institutions. We will have a tertiary korfball league running soon." This declaration was met with enthusiasm by the delegates.
Adding to the excitement, President Chadebah, in his capacity as lead instructor, promised that the ZKF would assign experienced coaches to the colleges to assist in the development of the sport at their respective institutions.
A Birthday to Remember
The final day on the 23rd was particularly memorable, as it coincided with Director Killian Pedzai's birthday. He celebrated the occasion by leading participants through the intricacies of korfball rules and officiating, drawing a warm birthday chorus from the assembled group. The workshop would not have been possible without the logistical support of local schools. Queen Elizabeth High School through Ottilia Kurebwaseka and Mufakose High 1 were thanked for providing their korfball equipment for use during the training sessions.

The ZKF leadership acknowledged that without her commitment and local knowledge, the successful hosting of this landmark event would not have been possible.

With the momentum generated by this workshop, ZKF executives have expressed confidence that the future of korfball in Zimbabwe's tertiary institutions is now brighter than ever. The challenge ahead is for the colleges to "live the life of korfball" as they prepare for the upcoming league and championships, with the full backing of the Federation's leadership and technical team.
