Zimbabwe Women's Resource Centre and Network ZWRCN- See how we are Making a Difference (MAD) for women. One step at a time We were established in 1990. In this respect, ZWRCN stands for Women’s Human Rights.

The Zimbabwe Women’s Resource Centre and Network (ZWRCN) is a non- governmental organization committed to promoting women’s social and economic justice in Zimbabwe and globally, through the power of information, networking and strategic advocacy. We are motivated by the belief that all human beings must fully enjoy the rights and freedoms enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDH

R), the Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW), and the SADC Protocol on Gender and Development, among other gender equality instruments. These human rights instruments affirm that ‘women’s rights are human rights’ and recognize the inherent rights of every person whether male or female.

Reflecting on the Zimbabwe Feminist Forum. ZWRCN as host of the ZFF convened the strategic reflection session for the ZFF and the result were bold, practical momentum for feminist organising across Zimbabwe.

𝑪𝒂𝒕𝒄𝒉𝒚 𝒍𝒆𝒂𝒅:
A roadmap, not just rhetoric: feminist care, youth leadership and provincial power are now funded with plans -not promises.
A day of energy, strategy and care! The ZFF Strategic Reflection Brown Bag drew activists, young feminists and movement allies to re-center the why -rooted in centuries of resistance, anti colonial struggles and feminist creativity. A map of the ZFF journey for 2026 with milestones unfolded - decentralize ZFF and a commitment to care.
Café moments surfaced concrete wins: activate and map provincial hubs using local assets; rotate and share organizing roles so leadership is visible and intergenerational; pilot mentorship and political education pathways for young feminists; document feminist memory and protect our language; and move towards shared, in movement resourcing that leverages our houses, skills and networks while we draft a transparent stewardship plan.
𝐍𝐞𝐱𝐭 𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐩𝐬: pilot provincial hubs, launch mentorship pathways, draft a clear fundraising & stewardship proposal, and confirm a date and theme for the national convening. ZWRCN will continue to provide secretariat support as the ZFF collective drives political direction and mobilization.

Today we held a meaningful reflection session on our collaboration with women parliamentarians and HeForShe Champions under the theme:
“𝐖𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐀𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, 𝐈𝐧𝐟𝐥𝐮𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐀𝐜𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲.” The dialogue provided an opportunity to appreciate progress made, reflect on emerging challenges, and strengthen shared commitment to advancing gender equality in governance.

We were honoured to have representatives from 𝑺𝒊𝒅𝒂 and 𝐃𝐢𝐚𝐤𝐨𝐧𝐢𝐚, who shared reflections on their long-standing collaboration in Zimbabwe and insights on opportunities for learning and exchange, including experiences from Sweden. Their engagement highlighted the important role of parliamentarians in promoting inclusive development, accountability and responsive public policy. As the Embassy of Sweden concludes its development cooperation programme in Zimbabwe, we take this opportunity to acknowledge and appreciate the significant contribution made through this partnership in advancing gender equality and strengthening inclusive and accountable governance processes.

The session highlighted the dedication and leadership of women Members of Parliament, who spoke candidly about their journeys into public service, the realities they navigate and the practical gains achieved through legislative engagement and constituency work. These reflections underscored the importance of sustained support systems that enable women leaders to participate effectively and influence national priorities.

Discussions also focused on strengthening parliamentary engagement in the national budget process. Through collaboration with ZWRCN, particularly on 𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫-𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐛𝐮𝐝𝐠𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐛𝐮𝐝𝐠𝐞𝐭 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠, parliamentarians continue to enhance their capacity to advocate for policies and resource allocations that respond to the lived realities of women, girls, people with disabilities and communities.
We extend our sincere appreciation to the women parliamentarians and HeForShe Champions for their commitment to this important dialogue, and to our partners at the Embassy of Sweden and Diakonia for their continued solidarity and support. Diakonia Embassy of Sweden in Harare

ZWRCN brought together council representatives and local leaders for a lively consultation session and Shurugwi did not disappoint!
From women stepping confidently into leadership, to stronger communication between residents and council, the conversations reflected real progress happening on the ground. We celebrated improved hospital conditions, better access to information, increased awareness on GBV, and growing inclusivity for persons with disabilities.
We also cheered on the rising participation of gender facilitators in local governance especially their impressive involvement in pre-budget consultations and also lobbying for social service deliveries within their wards!

𝑬𝒙𝒄𝒊𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒑𝒓𝒐𝒈𝒓𝒆𝒔𝒔!
ZWRCN has introduced a game-changing budget monitoring and tracking tool, which has been endorsed by MPs 👏. This innovative tool will enable lawmakers to track budget promises against actual allocations and disbursements, strengthening evidence-based oversight.

The tool will facilitate improved scrutiny of budget speeches and a commitment tracker, ensuring promises translate into tangible implementation and spending. 🌟

A key focus area is clear tracking of allocations and disbursements for health programmes, particularly maternal health. Let's amplify data-driven advocacy for increased investment in maternal health and gender equality, ultimately benefiting women, girls, and persons with disabilities.

ZWRCN, in partnership with Shurugwi Town Council and community gender facilitators, held a review and stocktaking meeting of the project's impact. The meeting showcased the skills gained through ZWRCN and how they have been applied in lobbying, advocacy, and community engagement to achieve visible results across wards.

The results noted included road rehabilitation, construction of polyclinics, repairing boreholes and improved access to tap water.

We also acknowledged the challenges faced, such as resistance, misinformation within communities, and delayed responses from authorities. Importantly, participants shared their stories on how they have learned to advocate within the community and liasing with their local councilors in addressing social service delivery gaps.

Yesterday’s discussion with CSOs health and budget experts emphasized the urgent need for dedicated funding to ensure access to quality care for every woman. We are Recognizing that the abolishment of user fees in local clinics is a significant step forward. It's vital that policy pronouncements come hand in hand with adequate funding to support these initiatives. Ensuring that resources are allocated appropriately will enhance access to quality maternal health services for all women.

Inaccessible facilities continue to hinder many women, and advocating for reforms to streamline fund management is key. Swift fund disbursement will ensure resources reach those who need them most.

It’s time to prioritize maternal health and create a future where every woman can give birth safely and with dignity.
