🦠 FLU IN WINTER—LET'S PROTECT OURSELVES AND OTHERS

As influenza cases rise during this prolonged cold spell, it is important to stay informed and take simple steps to protect ourselves and those around us.

🧼 Wash your hands regularly.
😷 Wear a mask when unwell and avoid crowded spaces where possible.
🤧 Cover your mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing.
🏠 Stay home when you are sick, if possible.
🏥 Seek medical attention early if symptoms become severe or you experience difficulty breathing.

Know it. Prevent it. Act early.

Young people may come from different backgrounds and face different realities, but their aspirations are remarkably similar: to be heard, to learn, to have opportunities, and to shape a future they can be proud of.

This , AWET celebrates the voices, ideas, resilience, and leadership of young people across our communities.

We believe young people should not only be prepared for the future; they should have a meaningful role in shaping it today.

Different contexts. Common aspirations. One generation with the power to create change.

NANGO 2026 | That's a wrap! 🎉

Two days of learning, sharing, meaningful conversations, and new connections have come to an end.

We are grateful for the opportunity to showcase AWET's work, engage with fellow civil society organisations and stakeholders, and explore partnerships that can help us deepen our impact for women, girls and marginalized communities.

Thank you to everyone who visited the AWET stand, asked questions, shared ideas, and connected with us. The conversations may be over, but the partnerships and possibilities are only beginning.

What an inspiring first day!

Today, AWET had the opportunity to engage with students, community members, fellow civil society organizations, development partners, and stakeholders, sharing our work and exchanging ideas on advancing the rights and wellbeing of women, girls, and marginalized communities.

Our stand was filled with meaningful conversations about menstrual health, child protection, gender equality, youth empowerment, and community-led development. Every interaction reinforced the importance of working together to create inclusive and resilient communities.

If you didn't make it today, there's still time!

📍 Visit the AWET stand tomorrow at Africa Unity Square, Harare. We'd love to connect with you, share our programmes, and explore opportunities for collaboration.

Together, we're empowering communities and creating lasting impact.

Breastfeeding is one of the most powerful investments in a child's health and future. Yet, no mother should have to do it alone.

This World Breastfeeding Week, AWET joins the global call to create supportive environments where mothers receive the encouragement, information, and care they need to breastfeed with confidence.

Support can come from many places—a partner who shares responsibilities, a family that encourages, a healthcare worker who provides guidance, an employer who creates breastfeeding-friendly spaces, or a community that stands with mothers every step of the way.

When we support mothers, we give every child the opportunity for a healthier start in life.

Together, let's strengthen what works and build communities where every mother feels seen, supported, and empowered.

Yesterday, women in Chironde chose health, wellness, and empowerment.

The P.O.W.E.R. Project, through the Chironde Women's Wellness Programme, brought together women from the community for a day focused on physical well-being, health education, and access to essential health services.

Participants took part in energising fitness sessions while also benefiting from free health services, including HIV testing and counselling, TB screening, breast cancer screening, health education, PrEP, VIAC, and other preventive health services delivered by our partners.

Women's empowerment goes beyond participation in decision-making—it also means ensuring that women have the knowledge, services, and support they need to lead healthy and fulfilling lives.

We extend our appreciation to our partners and everyone who participated in making the programme a success.

Together, we continue building healthier, stronger, and more resilient communities.

Real change begins with listening.

Today, the P.O.W.E.R. Project facilitated Focus Group Discussions in Shurugwi District, creating safe spaces where women, men and community members could openly discuss the social norms that shape their daily lives.

Through honest conversations, participants reflected on gender roles, gender-based violence, child marriage, household decision-making, and the beliefs that continue to influence opportunities for women and girls. Together, they identified harmful norms, explored positive alternatives, and committed to actions that can help build safer and more equitable communities.

Social norms do not change overnight, but every meaningful conversation is a step towards lasting transformation.

At P.O.W.E.R., we believe that communities are not just beneficiaries of change; they are the architects of it.

Together, we are building communities where equality, dignity and respect are shared values.

Changing the conversation starts with changing mindsets.

Today, the P.O.W.E.R Project took another important step in Shurugwi District through the Male Gender Champions Training Programme held at Chironde Clinic under the theme:

"A Real Man Protects, Does Not Harm."

The training brought together men from different sectors of the community—including village leadership, church leaders, youth, artisanal miners, faith healers, and traditional healers—to strengthen their understanding of gender-based violence, promote positive masculinity, and equip them to become champions of change.

Through interactive discussions and practical learning, participants reflected on harmful gender norms, explored non-violent conflict resolution, understood the legal protections against GBV, and committed to taking action within their homes and communities.

Ending gender-based violence requires everyone. By engaging men and boys as allies, we are building communities where respect, equality, and dignity are shared values.

Together, we are transforming social norms and creating safer communities for women and girls.
