1 HOUR TO GO! 🚨

We’ll be moderated by Chenayi Mutambasere development economist, enterprise architect, and founder of the Africa Centre for Economic Justice.

She works at the intersection of economic justice, digital inclusion, AI, and equitable development across Africa and the diaspora.

With experience across UK banking, legal and public sectors (including global enterprise architecture), she brings both institutional depth and a strong justice lens.

Her work spans digital inclusion, data poverty, and inclusive AI systems, including co-designing an AI literacy programme with the ITU to equip young people from non-STEM backgrounds.

She also serves as Cluster Steward under U4SSC Working Group 6 on digital governance, rights and responsible transformation.

🚨 IN A FEW HOURS TIME! 🚨

We will hear from Eric Mokuoa, Programmes Coordinator at the Bench Marks Foundation in South Africa and a leading voice in environmental and social justice across the continent. ✊🏾

As an activist, he has led campaigns for mining-affected communities and is part of progressive networks challenging extractivism and oppressive economic systems. Eric currently chairs the Alternative Mining Indaba, one of Southern Africa’s key civil society platforms on mining, corporate accountability and community rights.

His perspective brings frontline experience from communities whose land, livelihoods and civic freedoms are under threat from extractive industries, state repression and the criminalisation of environmental defenders.

On this 2026 , we speak not in celebration alone, but clarity and collective resolve to condemn the defining injustice of our time. A continent abundant in land, labour, minerals and creativity yet is still deprived of the means to meet basic needs because public finances are structured first and foremost to service debt. Across Southern Africa and the wider continent, debt service is treated as non‑negotiable while citizens are deprived of basic service delivery. Thus, Africa remains politically independent in flag and anthem but economically chained, extracted from and subordinated by an imperial financial architecture that continues to serve creditors before people.

Southern African Peoples Solidarity Network joins over 28 civil society organisations and advocacy groups in solidarity and collective action demanding urgent sovereign debt justice and structural reform of the global financial system.

Across Africa and many parts of the world, communities are facing deepening poverty, rising costs of living, collapsing public services and shrinking democratic space while governments are forced to prioritise debt servicing over people’s wellbeing.

This is not sustainable.
This is not justice.

The sovereign debt crisis continues to disproportionately burden women, young people, workers, low-income communities and marginalised groups while powerful global financial actors remain protected.

SAPSN stands with all movements and organisations calling for:
• Immediate and meaningful debt relief
• Accountability for private creditors and vulture funds
• Reform of the Common Framework
• An end to punitive IMF surcharges
• A fair, transparent and inclusive global debt system
• The establishment of a UN Framework Convention on Sovereign Debt

The time for half measures is over.
The world must choose people over profit.

The Southern Africa People Solidarity Network (SAPSN) strongly condemns the escalating wave of xenophobic and Afrophobic attacks targeting foreign nationals across South Africa. This violence which has tragically claimed the lives of at least two Nigerian nationals and four Ethiopian nationals, with unconfirmed reports of injuries and fatalities among citizens from Zimbabwe, Ghana, Malawi, Mozambique, Tanzania and other African nations constitutes direct, brutal assaults on African brothers and sisters who have sought nothing more than safety, dignity and the right to survival in a fellow African nation.

As SADC leaders prepare for the next summit, one question remains

Who is shaping the future of Southern Africa?

At the 2025 SADC People’s Summit, convened by the Southern Africa People's Solidarity Network (SAPSN) , communities made their voices clear: the region’s future must be people-centered, inclusive, and just.

But will those voices be heard?

Will ordinary citizens shape decisions
or will the region’s future continue to be decided without them?

The time for listening is now.

💬 What future do you want to see?
