Indigenous Business Development Centre - IBDC (Zimbabwe)

The Indigenous Business Development Centre (IBDC) was established in December 1990 due to the need to broaden indigenous participation in the business economic life of the country. AIMS AND OBJECTIVES OF IBDC

In its constitution IBDC stated its aims and objectives as:
“To foster, encourage, promote, protect and advance the establishment, maintenance, development and increase of indigenous owned e

nterprises in Zimbabwe and in so doing act as a focal point in the development of strategies”. ACHIEVEMENTS
• The land reform programme: indigenous farmers now participate in agriculture and are proud owners of the farm land. “land is the economy and the economy is land”
• The establishment of indigenous banks
• The establishment of an indigenization ministry, the promulgation of indigenization act
• Indigenization regulations for the practical implementation of the act
• Indigenous participation in the mining sector
• Indigenous participation in the once white dominated sectors such as haulage, industry and commerce, instead of being bottle-store owners and general dealers and a few indigenous bus operators
• In fact we now have indigenous participation in all the sectors of the economy
• Transformation of the passenger transport sector
• Chairman of the Civil Society Coalition of Zimbabwe in relation to the diamond trade.
