Harare Provincial World AIDS Day Solidarity message.
Despite the progress made, stigma and discrimination continue to undermine the HIV response. Many people still face judgment, exclusion, and unequal treatment because of their Health status and other aspects of their lives. These experiences discourage individuals from seeking health services and support. We therefore call for strengthened efforts to eliminate HIV-related stigma and discrimination in healthcare facilities, schools, workplaces, communities, and online spaces, ensuring that every person is treated with dignity, respect, and compassion.
We are also increasingly concerned by the role of some social media platforms and online content creators in spreading misinformation, hate speech, stigma, and harmful stereotypes that affect people living with HIV and communities from key and priority populations. The monetisation of harmful content can incentivise the spread of damaging narratives that fuel discrimination, exclusion, and fear. We encourage the National AIDS Council, public health institutions, communities, media stakeholders, and digital platforms to work together to promote accurate HIV information, strengthen digital health literacy, and create safer online spaces that support inclusion and public health goals.
