Act of Consecration of Zimbabwe to Mary the Mother of God |10 June 2026

(Prayer by the Catholic Bishops of Zimbabwe)

Oh Mary mother of God and our Mother, in this time of trial, we turn to you as the Church in Zimbabwe. As our Mother you love us and know us.
No concern of our hearts is hidden from you. Mother of mercy, how often we have experienced your watchful care and your peaceful presence? You never cease to guide us to Jesus, the Prince of Peace, yet many times we have strayed from that heart of peace.

We chose to ignore God to be satisfied with illusions.
We stopped being our neighbors' keepers and stewards of God’s gifts.
Holy Mother amid the misery of our sinfulness, amid our struggles and weaknesses, amid the mystery of the inequity that is evil and war, you remind us that God never abandons us but continues to look upon us with love, ever ready to forgive us and raise us up to new life.
He has given you to us and made your Immaculate Heart, a refuge for the Catholic Church and for all humanity.
By God’s gracious will you are ever with us, even in the most troubled moments of our history, you are there to guide us with tender love. We now turn to you and knock at the door of your heart.
We are your beloved children, in every age you make yourself known to us, calling us to conversion.
At this dark hour help us, and grant us your comfort. Say to us once more, am I not here, I am your mother?

You are able to untie the knots of our hearts and of our times.
In you we place our trust, we are confident that especially in moments of trial you will not be deaf to our supplications and will come to our aid, that is what you did at Cana* in Galilee when you interceded with Jesus and he worked the first of his signs. To preserve the joy of the wedding feast, you said to him they have no wine, now Mother repeated those words.

That prayer, for in our own day that we have run out of the wine of hope, joy has fled, fraternity has faded, we have forgotten our humanity, squandered the gift of peace.

We opened our hearts to violence and destructiveness.

How greatly we need your maternal help, therefore
oh Mother hear our prayers as we consecrate our country Zimbabwe to you to be the patroness of our country and to journey with us in this pilgrimage of life.

Let Zimbabwe from today, the 10th of June 2026 onwards, be truly the land of Mary the Mother of God.
Let us celebrate together annually on the 1st of January, the Feast of Zimbabwe, a Solemnity of Joy.

Mary the Mother of God. Star of the Sea, do not let us be shipwrecked in the tempest trials and tribulations. Ark of the new covenant, inspire our lives to follow your son.
Queen of heaven, restore God’s peace to the world and in our country, eliminate hate and the thirst for revenge and teach us forgiveness.
Free us from sin.
Queen of the Rosary, make us realise our need to pray and to love.
Queen of the human family, show us the path of fraternity.
Queen of Peace, obtain peace for our world.
Oh Mother! may your sorrowful plea stir our hardened hearts.

Holy Mother of God as you stood beneath the cross, Jesus saw the disciple at your side said, behold your son. In this way he entrusted each of us to you.
To the disciple and to each of us he said behold your mother.
Mother Mary, we desire to welcome you in our lives and our country.
At this hour, *we stand with you beneath the cross needing to entrust ourselves and our country through you to consecrate it to Christ.
Therefore Mother of God and our Mother, to your immaculate heart we solemnly entrust and consecrate our country.
Accept this act that we carry out with confidence and love.
The fiat that arose from your heart opened the doors of history to the prince of peace.

We trust that through your heart, peace will dawn once more in our hearts. To you we consecrate the future of the whole country of Zimbabwe, the needs and expectations of us all and all our anxieties and hopes.

Through your intercession may God's mercy be poured out on earth and the gentle rhythm of peace return to mark our days.
Our Lady of the fiat, on whom the Holy Spirit descended, restore among us, the harmony that comes from God.
May you our living fountain of hope, water the dryness of our hearts.
In your womb, Jesus took flesh, help us now to foster the growth of communion. You once strolled the streets of our world, lead us now, on the path of peace.

Amen!

Solemnity of Most Sacred Heart of Jesus

The *Sacred Heart of Jesus*, is considered the chief sign and symbol of love with which the divine Redeemer continually loves human beings’ without exception (CCC #478). In 1899, Pope Leo XIII consecrated the world to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

Here is a look at the explanation behind some of the features of the Sacred Heart:
▪️*The flames*: brings to mind the Passion of Christ on the cross and Christ’s passionate love for us.
▪️ *The rays of light* : The Sacred Heart constitutes the climax of divine self-revelation, showing us the depths of God’s love for us.
▪️ *The arrows* : The arrow could draws upon an ancient Roman metaphor for love, which, according to ancient myth, occurred when the god Cupid shot an arrow through the hearts of lovers.
▪️ *The crown of thorns* : Wrapping the crown around the heart emphasizes the fact that Christ felt His wounds to the depths of His heart.
▪️ *The Cross* : Rather than the heart being nailed to the cross, the cross now seems ‘planted’ in the heart.

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ, today we gather with devotion and gratitude to celebrate the Feast of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus. In His Sacred Heart, we contemplate the boundless love of God made visible in Christ—a love that is tender, merciful, forgiving, and faithful.

This Heart, pierced for our salvation, continues to pour out grace, healing, and hope upon the whole world. The Sacred Heart of Jesus invites us to draw near to Him with trust, especially in our struggles, wounds, failures, and fears. He calls us to learn from His meekness and humility, and to make our own hearts more compassionate and forgiving. As we celebrate this Holy Eucharist, let us surrender ourselves to His loving Heart and ask for the grace to become signs of His mercy in our families, communities, and society.
