What an eventful weekend it was. On the 28th of March 2026, we joined our esteemed colleagues WWF Zimbabwe and other key partners Forestry Commission Zimbabwe Zimparks Ministry of Environment, Climate and Wildlife Friends Of The Environment Environmental Management Agency to celebrate 2026.

It is a WWF led global event to recognize human impacts on environment especially through energy consumption. We use it to remind each to give an hour of zero energy consumption to the Earth.

We are proud to be part of this annual event and call upon young people to be part of the solution. Our consumption patterns matter and we are the right people for the right solutions the world is looking for.

Thank you to all the wonderful young people who joined us led by Tapiwa Prosper Chimbadzwa of Zimbabwe Youth Biodiversity Network

We are celebrating World Wildlife Day and the Africa Environment Day. This is a milestone event celebrated every 3rd of March where we appreciate the role of nature especially plants and animals, their sustainable use and societal benefits.

This year's theme is "Medicinal Aromatic Plants, Conserving Health, Heritage and Livelihoods".

This is an important theme as we celebrate use and legal exploitation of medicinal plants for the benefit of society.

We celebrate this event jointly with our partners CITES Global Youth Network Zimbabwe Chapter who are spearheading the involvement of youth voices in the CITES discourse.

On Day 2 of the First African Biodiversity Summit, which is being convened by the African Union and hosted by the Government of Botswana, there was a side event on "Youth and the Bio-Economy :From Ideas to Green Enterprises".

This event was graced by the Minister of Environment for Botswana Mr Wynter Mmlotsi and the Minister of Youth and Gender Affairs Ms Lesego Chombo where the intergenerational dialogue explored on pathways for young people to fully exploit opportunities offered by the Bio-Economy in Africa.

Minister Lesego Chombo, emphasized the need for young Africans to "have the NERVE", which is necessary for someone to create a change in society.

Minister Mmlotsi challenged young people to not stop dreaming quoting a poet who advised that if you stop dreaming, you are like a bird with broken wings.

The demand on African youths is to show up,start small and create a solution to people's problems through Bio-Economy.

We are thankful to the organizers of the side event Sustain267 and GYBN Africa with support from WWF in Africa.

Day 8 of the Ramsar Wetlands COP15 in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe, marks the final stretch of deliberations for the Strategic Action Plan for Wetlands.

This pivotal document provides crucial direction on conservation, wise utilization, and restoration of wetlands, while emphasizing concerted efforts to mitigate threats such as climate change, unsustainable agriculture, and urbanization. We anticipate the draft report following today's plenary session.

Additionally, we are eager to learn from colleagues, including Peter Terry Makhusa of Matabeleland Youth Conservation Society initiatives that empower young people to connect with nature and become positive social changers. It was great meeting Prof Tawanda Tarakini of Chinhoyi University of Technology and their research teams working on wetlands.

🌍COP15 Ramsar Convention | Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe🇿🇼
🗓️ July 23–31

We’re proud to share that our Programs Coordinator Knowledge Vingi recently featured on Zimpapers TV Network’s NewsPlus, sharing key insights on the ongoing Ramsar Convention on Wetlands — a crucial global gathering focused on the conservation and sustainable use of wetlands.

🗣️ “Wetlands provide ecosystem services, improve the resilience of ecosystems to sustain livelihoods, and are vital for biodiversity and climate change adaptation.”

But these lifelines are under threat. Urbanization, pollution, and climate change continue to put pressure on these fragile ecosystems.

Bringing the Ramsar Convention to Zimbabwe is more than just symbolic — it’s a recognition that Zimbabwe is a key and active player in wetland conservation.
